No, but please tell me that isn't a Porsche next to it with the same treatment? Also, there appears to be a sizeable helping of junk inside, which raises the question: When are rats cool? And when are they merely POS with an attitude?
Cool is in the eye of the beholder. I guarantee you that some people would consider a lot of our cars to be POS
There's some truth in that statement.
Am I the only crazy here that wants to see this
With one of these in it
As a rat rod?

Rat-Rod Steampunk?
This was at a local car show. Not my cup of tea, but the attention to detail was incredible.

What should I build?
Take your truck, but some kind of wagon body on it, go with a medical theme and call it the "Waaaah-mbulance" for all of the rat rod whining.

these cars kinda remind me of tour modifieds.
I was thinking the same thing, it just needs some wide tires, nerf bars, and a hood.

There was a woman here for a while that had one in a Daytona 250 kit car. No rat, just hot.

But I stand by the caricature statement. Stuff like the skulls and spiderwebs I see on so many rat rods are just ridiculous. They're no more traditional than girls covered in ink who think they look like Betty Page.
Girls covered in ink who try to look like Bettie Page may not be traditional, but I appreciate the look.

One of the things that holds me back IRT rods like this are what I assume to be really heavy rotating mass and the effect it must have on handling and breaking. Any guess what those wheel/tire combos weigh?
Total guess, but I'm figuring that styles comes a little before performance.
So, who's going to be the first one to do a Challenge car like this?
im already planning this. thinking homemade fiberglass boattail speedster/50's indycar body on ladder frame, circle track front suspension, 3 link rear, neon dohc engine or gm 60* v6, satin black, and 295/50/15's on all 4 corners.
I already have the engine, and am looking for the body that does it for me the most. have no idea what class it would fall into at the challenge, or local scca.

Thanks. Great thread. I just glanced at it, and will definitely spend a lot of time wading through that one
About halfway through the thread. These guys did some great work to bring that car back. I really approve of builds where they take junk and make it a car. Not so much the builds that take a car and make it junk.

This is it. This is what Rat Rods should be, built from junk, not turned into junk.
And yes I'm one of those curmudgeons who thinks it was stupid to strip the paint off the Karman Ghia and piss on it.
I'll be the first to "complain" about the Ghia with the manufactured rust...
It reminds me of a friend in the '90's who bought steel-toe boots and took an angle grinder to the toes to make 'em look as though he actually did manual labor... Same treatment given to his jeans.
You could almost picture him actually getting his hands dirty. I just don't get the fake rust, I have a hard enough time dealing with the real thing.
Edit: I'll be the second person to complain!
I was thinking something like this:

is that Juliette GA? I'm doing a bike ride up there this weekend. Hafta keep an eye out for that...
In reply to stan:
I think that's the trick - Coming up with a design that works. I've been looking at old trucks, and old pickups have a smaller track width than my dually, so the fenders don't cover the tires well. But if you do something like this one, that's not an issue anymore. It's kid of like building a street rod, but on a truck frame and with dual rear wheels instead of monster street slicks. A heavy duty street rod.
In reply to Gasoline:
Do you know what they want for that REO?
Its solid, but a way too much for Atlanta $4,200.00.
Too

specials class; same as a locost or a kit car
