This. I did much of a restoration on a '90 Miata and when all was said and done, you could practically have bought a new MX-5 for what it cost. At the beginning of the project, we explicitly told the car's owner that he would be far ahead money-wise if he just found a clean '90 and had us bring it up to date maintenance-wise. No, he said, it has to be this car. Fair enough.
I later did work for someone who did his own frame-off restoration of an '02 Silverado. Fortunately for him, parts were easy to find since most are still in the dealer network.
