Where to hunt for a Volvo 200 series?

Hey all. Besides craigslist, where can I look for a 240-ish Volvo? The websites I've checked seem to kind of dead.

IPD has a small classified section, but most of those cars are on the west coast. However, IPD also has a list of forums and clubs that would probably have classifieds sections on them.

I would search Craigslist Phoenix and Tucson, there are many of these cars in Arizona. The San Francisco Bay area Craigslist is good as well.

Nothing on TurboBricks?

My first thought (as learned here on GRM) was Atlanta seeing that you are on the east coast. A quick search produced this nice 1993 (last year) example at 129k miles for $2.2k, asking price.

Yeah, thats kinda what I'm doing now. I have a program that I use to search craigslist for anything within 200 miles of me. I guess I could widen that.

I may have missed checking out turbobricks, so I'll try that. Any other forums that have some activity?

I'm in Virginia and can send you a lead or two on the cars I passed on that may be worth checking out. FWIW, all of the cars I'm considering were manual trans. Volvos

Someplace where the tinworm does not live. As always, buy the best one you can find. Poke at the floor pan along the sills carefully. Actually, buy two- one rustbucket from the northeast with non- sunbaked interior, and a dry Arizona car for the body.

Oh yeah- and a Mustang for the engine.

I'm in Raleigh, NC. I want something in nice shape with a manual trans, although I'll take an automatic if the car is cherry enough.

I can't imagine volvo 240's being hard to find. They are just too common out here. I doubt a day goes by that I don't see at least 30 of them. I know 2800 miles is a long way to drive but you might look in the PNW craigslists.

The appeal of them is lost on me however. I guess don't get it.

Friend bought a $300 240 wagon off of Craigslist in Albuquerque (long story) and drove it with few issues for a few years. Automatic. Not fast, felt a bit boat-ish to drive actually which surprised me, although that could probably be improved with bigger sways and all bushings replaced, etc.

Common here but rarely for sale.

There are a decent amount in Ohio. I just saw a 240 wagon on CL a couple days ago for ~$1000. I live the 700 series better myself, can never have too many 90 degree angles.

There are a few for sale on CL at the moment that I'm sure you saw. Are you looking for a wagon or a sedan?

Old Volvos always seem more commonly for sale in the summertime. I'd say that Volvos are going to get more common on Craigslist in about 2 months, as people who put away their summer cars take them back out and sell off their winter beaters.

Also, it's good to see another GRMer in the Raleigh area.

I know a local guy with a SUPER NICE non turbo/manual late 70s one for sale. Its sheer beauty to my eyes. I think he wants in the high 3s for it, its that nice.
