I am having a debate at work need some help.

Which OEM has the most championships overall? A source to go along with it would also be greatly beneficial.

Did a Google search and couldn't find in the limited amount of time I had.

Help me GRM forums, your my only hope...

Hudson.

I'd take a W.A.G. at Ford based on-

a) They've been around a long time b) They had a racing program before they had a manufacturing program.

It's probably wrong, but if we were on Cash Cab that's what I'd say.

And if you factor in all the Australian fords, ala V8 racers ....

I was going to say Fiat if you're including world wide OEMs.

My guess would be Porsche, with Mazda coming up fast.

Yeah, my knee-jerk reaction would be Porsche.

I need a clarification - do mean teams owned and operated by the manufacturer or just which marque has the most championships?

Are we talking all series, all racing globally?

Also - are we talking OEM complete vehicles or is a chevy powered dirt modified a Chevrolet?

Ford has at least powered everything from Formula 1 to Nascar to Indy to SCCA to the drag strip, but has it always been an official factory effort? For truly OEM, Ferrari or Porsche would seem to have the lead there.

I'd say Ford. Between Nascar every week, F1, Sports Cars, Aussie V8's, and the Ralley Escorts, they should be right at the top.

Which marque has the most manufacturers championships globally?

Well Manufacturer's Championships only changes things, as there is none of that drivel in amateur motorsports.

According to Porsche, they have 14 World Titles for Makes or Teams.

That is seriously eclipsed by Ferrari however, whom have 16 F1 Constructor's Championships and 13 World Sports Car Championships, for 29 total World Titles according to Wiki.

Also according to Wiki though, Ford has 8 NASCAR Championships, 3 WRC Championships, 1 Sports Car Championship, and 2 Trans-Am titles (in the original era). Adding in the subsequent IMSA, Trans Am, and lesser victories (Koni, etc) plus John Force's 15? (I can't even remember anymore!), Glidden's 8?, Bernstein's handful, and on and on they would probably take the cake.

I would argue against Ford winning though, as many of those are not true "World" titles. You have to compete in more than one country (and morte than once) for it to be meaningful I think in this sense. So the original Trans Am (which raced in Canada a few times a year and Mexico) and Can-Am would apply, but NASCAR and NHRA certainly wouldn't.

So, if you are saying just major international ("global") championships, Ferrari. If you are saying all professional manufacturer championship's, Ford.

This. If we're talking about engines, it's definitely GM.

If you require (most of) the car, and are include drag racing, it's still GM. Every track has it's own points system and championship. Five, maybe six classes at each, at least half are going to be won by a GM. Multiply by 140 NHRA tracks and 89 IHRA tracks in the US alone, skipping all minor sanctioning bodies, and you get a large number, every year. Then some get together at larger events and have the points winners race other regions point winners for more championships.

Plus, they've been a major force in drag racing since the 60's.

tuna55,

I don't think any of those have a "Manufacturer's Championship" though. I mean if we're talking what car the Driver's Champion raced, then heck yes it's going to be GM or Ford hands-down, but FlightService specifically asked for Constructor's Titles, which not even the NHRA has for the Pro-level (at least I don't remember them having it).

Well, he didn't specifically say that while I was typing my post. But sure.

I'm bias but I would say BMW has the most modern wins...

e30 M3 holds the record as the most successful race car.

BMW has the most 24h of the Nurburgring wins.

F1...uhhh nevermind.

The winningest single chassis in the world is arguably the Mazda RX-7 from IMSA GTU in the 80s.

4 championship titles and a second place in the championship in 5 years. That car was fast!

If so then it's Chevrolet. a SBC powered dirt cars wins a championship somewhere in the US about every six seconds.

Yup, that is what I am talking about.

I was wondering how Miata was going to be the answer to this one. Thank you Mr. Brown for answering that question.
