Hey guys,

We are in search of a decently priced (read cheap) oil filter relocation kit for our Challenge car a 5.0 Miata.

They seem to range in price from $50 - $300. Seeing that oil is relatively critical to a motors function I want the relocator to work however we need to be mindful of the budget.

Anyone have one for sale or make any recommendations for cheapish ones that work well (not leak).

Have you looked at BAT? I seen to remember them having a less expensive mocal option.

I don't think there are multiple sources for these - at least, not the cheap ones. I suspect all the cast ones come from the same place. I've seen the cast ones fail, too. It's something I'd be willing to do on a Challenge car but not something I'd be willing to do on a race car.

I've got a spare block adaptor from the mg. You'll just need lines and the filter housing. It's a quality piece, but kinda thick - nearly 2" where the cheap transdapts (lots of mg conversion folks use the cheapies without any issues) are more like 1.5". Drop me a note if you want it

Oldtin,

Sounds good to me. I think my PM's from here come from a invalid email address. My email address is gregory.k.voth at gmail.com

Thanks for the response guys!

Didn't the police and HD variants of the Ford SB come from the factory with an external oil cooler option? Might be worth hitting the yard for the adapter and maybe the cooler.

You could also see if an RX-7 oil cooler will fit up (has an internal thermostat) The trick is making up the lines on the cheap, but at least the large parts would be out of the way.

BTW, the Ford SB oil filter is pretty universally used (use that filter on my Shelby CSX and my Porsche 924) So look at cars with the same filter threads and you might find something.

You'll need to log in to post.
