Back in late August work was slow, so I decided to tear into next springs paint project. Work picked up and now it's getting cold. I disassembled the car, did all of the metal work and have a good start on the filler. Most of the car is in original paint, some in bare filler and some in rattle can primer over filler. Probably won't be able to finish before winter sets in. What is my best bet for sealing this thing up tight till spring gets here? I would rather not have to redo anything or take any steps backwards once I get back at it. What should I hit this car with, and what should I absolutely finish before I spray it? Probably only have a handful of 50 degree plus sunny days that I'm not working left. Seems like every couple of years I go to paint a car and all of the materials and procedures change.

Two part epoxy the whole car. Not a waste of time or material since you will be block sanding the car anyways.

Last time I was at the local paint shop I asked them what primer to use if the car would be stored possibly outside for a relatively long period without paint. They recommended an epoxy primer, which they said is pretty much bulletproof and non-porous. It sprays on just like normal primer. Seemed to work well.

PPG DPX171 - 172 self-etching epoxy primer and catalyst.

Only shoot the bare metal and filler, feather onto the painted parts.

Wear an organic vapor cartridge type respirator w/ good cartridges.
