Who Else Here Cross Shops Very Different Cars?

Here's an unusual which car thread for you. Here a short list of some of the vehicles I considered enough to at least study up on and some to test drive.

Charger/Challenger R/T and SRT, Dodge 300S and SRT, Buick LaCrosse 3.6, VW CC 2.0 and 3.6, VW GTI Autobahn, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Renegade (still waiting), Subaru Forrester XT, Infinity FX35/50, Nissan Juke Nismo RS, Subaru Legacy 3.6R, and a few others I can't think of right now. There candidates are all new or the most recent version of the model, but there are two finalists, the 2012-2013 Buick Regal GS and the Subaru Crosstrek. Totally opposite cars, but I can see enjoying both for different reasons. I'm maybe a little intimidated by the Regal's tech/suspension/etc., and if I go this route, non-negotiables include the 20 inch wheel option, which means expensive tires, and auto (I know). Cost is a bit less for the GS, and its uncommon and I think cool as hell. I'll take any color, but order of preference is grey, white, black, and red. Haven't driven one yet though. Might want the Trifecta tune...

OK, so Cross trek. Do I soft off road? Sometimes, actually yes. I can avoid it so a soft roader is not necessary, but the Cross Trek is pretty cool all things considered and I'm comfortable in a Subaru. Reviews peg it as slow with a noisy CVT, I thought it felt just fine on the road. Its no sports car, no doubt, but it got around just fine. Love the khaki color, have some mod ideas already, but nothing performance oriented. I'm looking to buy in January. The Cross Trek is more expensive to buy but I think less spendy to maintain by a hair. Anyone else here cross shop totally different types of cars? I'd like to test drive the Juke, too, but it does not strike me as a long term type car for me given the looks. I expect to keep the car for 10 ears or close to it.

Currently cross shopping the following: Mazda2, Fiesta 1.0EB, FiST, Miata, and the EB mustang.

I had a similar list and we went with the GTI.

Shopped, CX-5, Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, '13 WRX hatch, GTI, Focus ST, Escape, Flex, Tiguan, Wrangler unlimited, Grand Cherokee, Patriot (good shape, but uninspiring otherwise), '12 A3, E90 Wagons, etc.

I think the GTI is too small for our family of 4, but for 95% of duties, it is perfect. I'm going to back it up with a crew cab pickup for camping/hauling duties, but I'm really loving the GTI so far.

I've been cross shopping a 2015 Silverado and a 2015 Kia Optima.

I have no car and no money or real need for one at the moment and it's killing me so I spend my free time looking for my next one. I have it narrowed down to a 1st gen mr2, any miata,because ive never had a fun car. or a small station wagon or truck because home depot/ yard sales/ scrap metal. Lol

I was going to get another Bentley and ended up in a Subaru. Both four door, both 2WD both set 4 comfortably. But completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

Maintenance on the Cross Trek is stupid simple for most basic things, like oil changes.

And I love to shop entirely different vehicles. Currently, do I purchase Miata #15 (I own my first, thirteenth and fourteenth), or a Smart car, which would be used mainly by my wife for her less than 5 miles commute.

Right now my 3 candidates to replace the Sentra about this time next year are a BMW M235i, an Ecoboost Mustang, or a Frisbee with a turbo kit. The Frisbee is topping the list at the moment.

I'm cross-shopping a 92-97 F450 4x4, Ford Escape and P71.

Where can I get a 2WD Subaru?

i've been looking at legacy outbacks and 93-96 fleetwood broughams. almost as far apart as you can get.

I tried to buy a full size Nissan van but the finance guy was an a-hole so I bought the CTS-V wagon. Now I kind of want another Mazda2. Or a Mustang. Or a Civic Si. And I've casually been searching deuce and a half's.

I know you plan on keeping it long term, but the Subaru will still be worth way more in 10 years than the Buick. I never had any trouble selling 200,000 mile Subarus to generate a healthy down payment on the next one.

As for cross-shopping, I have money in the bank and am considering options for my next pointless toy: '05 Mustang GT, '66-'70 Ford Falcon, Royal Enfield motorcycle.

I was cross shopping a Nissan Frontier and a Mini cooper. One would have towed my Miata and other toys, the other would have replaced the Miata. Decided to just continue DD the Miata.

For my next vehicle, I'm considering either a Prius for the fuel economy or a Chevy Suburban for the abundant space--and you can never have too much space! I'm just not sure the 'burban's fuel economy can match the Prius however.

I once got kicked out of a Honda dealership for just that. In fact, the sales manager called me a "berkeleying clown" that didn't know what he wants.
I was asking for their best price on two cars. One was a 4 door Accord. The other was a CRX-si. I made perfect sense to me, but apparently not to him.
I could do two things. One was buy the CRX for me. The other was Buy an Accord for my wife and then I'd take her car. I was going to base it on which car I could get a better deal on.
After I left I wrote an email to the owner complaining about it. He said that they train their sales people to help the customer focus on one vehicle, but understood that my situation was different. He said I'd have their best price on each car the next day. The next day I didn't have their best price, so I went to another Honda dealer and bought a CRX-si. The day after that the first dealer contacted me and I was happy to tell them that I just bought a car from their competitor.

Let's see... when I moved to Alaska I cross shopped a 4cyl Tacoma reg cab 4x4, a Prius C, an Impreza, and a Mustang. Bought the Mustang.

When I replaced the mustang, it was the 1.0EB Fiesta in the lead until I drove a Mazda6 (and there not being any EB fiestas in Alaska at the time, made it easy).

Motorcycles? Buying the WR250R was pretty straight forward, I knew that was exactly what I wanted. But next year I'm hoping to finally get and keep a second bike and so far I've narrowed my choices to a cruiser (used V-Star 650 on the cheap, a newer Sportster in the middle, Harley Street Bob on the $$$), a couple italian sporty standards (Moto Guzzi V7 Stone, Ducati Monster S2R 1000), and a sport bike (2000-ish 750SS).

By now I've narrowed it down to E46 (3 models, and if you include different packages, 4 models) and possibly a Mustang--but that is a very long shot.

But about 6 months ago, I was between the following:

Same, I cross shop cars that interest me, and sometimes their form factor or utility is quite different. Most recently debated Evo X vs S2000 vs E90 M3. S2000 won, guess I can't carry my kayak or some of my fishing poles. Oh well!
