I pondered this when I had my MS3. Sparco Terra's and flaps looks awesome. Stiffer springs and a little more travel would be the ticket. Besides the torque steer that would be a ln awesome urban rocket.
never did it. I knew I would move on and didn't want to spend the money.
Regular Mazda 3 brakes might be required to clear smaller wheels. There's some rallyx builds online that cover this.
It looks like certain generations of Mazda 6 and CX-7 and other things are based on the chassis, too.
GTI or R.
My Golf has BC Racing coil overs and I can jack it up quite a bit if I wanted. Being an R it is 95% FWD and the rear kicks in if the fronts slip. A decent set of snows will get you places.
350AWHP will make you smile.

Fun discussion on this one!
I probably should have been more clear, the MS3 would be getting the treatment, not be replaced. It's a rare enough, mostly stock, healthy compression, complete car that hasn't been vaped in that I could ask for. Also not in the budget plan to replace with something else to modify.
Also not specifically looking for something with softer suspension, just more ground clearance.
I also know this really isn't the best platform in general, it torque steers like a m'fer, and obviously the rear wheels are just along for the ride, but hey, it's what I got and I really like the thing. If
paul_s0 , interesting setup you've got there! I didn't' see how much you think your ride height ended up raising with that setup.
I think a slight lift to fit a slightly taller tire would get me where I need to go, but it would be helpful to know within some reason what X.X lift will net me with tire clearance, if any. I'm also not looking to make an overland rig, just um, something that doesn't scrape it's butt everywhere.
I think the spacers, though not perfect, are the ticket for me and my budget for this one!
From where it should have been, around 0.5" higher, but mine was on some locally made springs when I got it which although are supposed to be "heavy duty", were very much not, and kept on sagging further, not the best photo, but this is how it was (driving through mud up the sills):
and after:
The uncut Mazda 5 rears gave it something daft like 8", hence the need for a trim. Ideally you'll want 16" rims, but as mentioned the MS3 discs don't fit under the 16" rim, you'd need to fit the discs from a n/a (can't recall if the 2.3 discs fit, or if you need the 2.0 like mine).
There is a Mini Cooper clubman with what appears to me a 2" lift and all terrains on it. It looks amazing.
Even my wife has commented how neat it looks- and she never notices cars.
I had one.
Built for rallyx before I bought it: 2.4 swap, LSD, and SRT4 springs for a bit of ground clearance. That was a fun car for all kinds of stuff.
I also got really good at working on the front end of a Neon...
