Good luck getting those Fiat diesels certified, apparently it is still nearly impossible. Maybe this new marriage will help it along but I doubt it.

Focus on selling the Cinco (Cincociento? I doubt Ford will give up the rights to the 500 name on this continent) and the Linea along with the current Avenger, Charger, Challenger, Journey, Caravan, Sprinter, Dodge Truck and Viper until the models phase out or the construction contracts are up.

Do not renew the Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Dakota, Durango or Sprinter. Design a "Full size" replacement for the Avenger and Charger that is all wheel drive or fwd using the Avengers "World" drivetrain.

No kidding. Who would've thought that turbocharging every 4 cylinder engine you had, instead of engineering new 6 cylinders like everyone else, would be a winning policy in the 80's?

They also invented the Minivan. A rolling box that hauls kids? Will that even sell?!

The Viper is a no brainer for car guys. We knew the valuable vein they were drilling there.

Pt Cruiser? Build an economy car that looks like an old school hot rod? Who wants a hot rod with barely 100 hp?

You know, that pretty well defines Chrysler and their remarkable survival strategy over the years. Years? Heck, it's been decades now.

I've never seen such a suicidal company live so long.

I want to know how a Fiat dealer is going to cope with a 69 Hemi Cuda in the service lane....It is probably too wide for their lift

I want to know how ANY Chrysler dealer would cope witha '69 Hemi 'Cuda.

I doubt most dealer techs would even know what a point file looks like.

I'd be more concerned about a B-body, like a daytona or superbird. You could probly put a ramp on the trunk and drive half the fiat line thrue the wing

"Chrysler's product plan calls for a subcompact hatchback from Fiat to enter the market late next year.

Chrysler could redesign the 500 a little and rebadge it as a Chrysler, but that probably wouldn't make a lot of sense."

News ive been waiting for!!!!

Change the Fiat Badge to a pentastar, and the "500" badge to a neon badge, and change NOTHING else. The 500 totally captures the cute/cool that the Neon had and gave away.

Remember, Chrysler itself started when old Walter P was hired to reorganized the bankrupt Maxwell-Chalmers Motor Car Company back in 1924. So none of this is even remotely new for this company. ;)

Mini '37 Ford sedan, which has been kind of the "family" hot rod for decades.

In fact, that's one of the reasons I liked my own PT Cruiser. I know a lot of people that have built PTs that look remarkably similar to this:

And while they are small, they have at least as much room inside as those '37s.

Change the Fiat Badge to a pentagram, change the 500 badge to "666," mount a set of fire-breathing goat horns to the hood, and I'll totally buy one tomorrow.

ficksed.

THIS. Ford spelled it out, Fiat uses numbers. If Ford gets litigious at Fiatsler, they can say the official proncunication/spelling is "Cinquecento" and use it in their literature, and say "Fiat Five Hundred" is an unofficial nickname used by the public.

Besides, the Ford Five Hundred went over like a lead ballon in terms of sales. Maybe Ford won't care (yeah, right 9_9).

there is also the whole "heritage" thing. Fiat has been using the term "500" for How long?

I remember a number of years ago that Pontiac tried to sue BMW for the Kidney grill.. saying it was too like the split grills on their cars.. And Pontiac LOST because BMW had been using that adornment as a trademarked part of their cars since before the second war

Here's a semi-obscure musical tie-in:

Lush--"500" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD04IQkAsAg dedicated to the Fiat 500

Plus, Miki Berenyi (redhead singer) made me rather happy in the trousers.

It will not be run as a for-profit compnay. It will be run for the benefit of UAW.
