this year was our first challenge and it was definitely not the last. we learned a lot, laughed a lot, and got some helpful advice from a lot of great people! if anyone out there is debating going and sweating whether your car is good enough, my advice is just do it, even if the car you have to bring isnt perfect.

I can vouch for that statement.....

So, I know of at least 2 cars that are being prepped for next year. Possibly 4 for next year. Who knows? It's the challenge, anything can happen. I made sure I hung out at the hotel this year just to witness the shinanigans that I've heard so much about, and it was the calmest challenge I've seen yet.
Darn it.... I figured I could do some prep tonight and try to at least "start" before you.

Dang ya'll are slow, started yesterday at about 1pm, coarse it was just going throught the car and cataloging the stuff that needs to be done, that and pulling the front bumper cover off.

Andy, can't wait to see what you guys come up with next year, much less everyone else. After seeing the Hong cars and how clean the Gutty CRX was, I think I have an idea on what needs to be done. Now to just keep the ball rolling for 11.5 more months.

It depends. All 18 hours home I was debating the best way to make a single-turbo manifold for a 13B. The singularity of focus this addiction can provide is certainly scary, I'll give you that.

Cant just leave it alone now can we? It basically needs MORE OF EVERYTHING!

(tires, suspension, power, etc...)

I'll agree with that. But, you should have plenty of room left in the budget to work with.

What's really funny is how many of you are willing to scrap all of the hard work for 2009 and start all over again.

We did one car fully once, and then developed it over 3 challenges. Seemed to work well doing that.

Not everyone is driven like Andy and his family- who ROCK. So sometimes it's about simplifying. Remember, there are a lot of angles to take the Challenge- all of them have won at one time or another.

After my dismal showing I am determined to improve on the very unsuccessful finish my car had, I feel I have something to prove yet. I still had the best and most fun time ever at the event.

Buttoning up the new turbo setup on my $2010 challenge car tonite if all goes well.

Suspension is done. Most of the electronics are done, it just has to fire again, should be tonite.

Then i'll have about $300 left in budget to make it pretty after i grab some better tires than the Nexens that are on there. Not that it'll matter.... damn thing is going to be useless in auto-x with the turbo setup on it. OH well!

Slicks, rods and boost to the Moon!!! Awesome job from you guys, especially for it being a first year visit.

HUGE +1 there on all counts. You guys did a spectacular job. Can't wait to see the new-and-improved version next year.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we were blown away by the community and we'll be back with two cars next year.

Team Phostiva already had our $2010 car planned and a budget created by the time we got back to Austin. We had 18hrs and an air card, what else were we to do... Also picked up our first part on my way home from dropping the Festiva off :) Already looking forward to next year!

plus a sideways 8 on that. there were some good ideas that were either poorly or incompletely executed this year. spend a year cleaning, detailing, tuning, and practicing, and bring your '09 car back in '10.

in '03 i brought an undeveloped V8 corvair and finished 48th out of 66. i went home with a punch list and i punched it.

in '04 i brought a much-improved but still not perfect V8 corvair and finished 16th out of 79. again i went home with a punch list, but sold the car for almost 2x budget instead of developing it further.

still sitting in my driveway is the v8 944 that finished 18th in the '08 challenge. i can't believe none of you fags has bought it yet.

Once again, it was really cool hanging out with you guys too. Lots of very cool 1st year teams there. Wish us luck on our version of your idea . You guys did an excellent job wrestling that monster down the strip. I think my a-hole was puckering as much as the driver's!

I went next to the starting line to get a better look at it. Seeing it run from directly behind increased the awesomeness.

Wish I would've seen that. My testes were sucked inward when they lined up next to the Locost.

LOL yeah IF we're using the WHOLE budget........ my wife wants to try and stay under 1k, but if we break that mark......WEEEEELLLLL we might just go all out with it. Besides can't let the ladies enter a car and not have my own done.

BTW I'm quoting this, "does the gti have a cage?" "no it doesn't need one unless it breaks 13's I think." "gee I hope we can at least do that."

Yeah, no E36 M3. With all the parts laid out on the trailer, it looked a lot more doable than I first thought.

The DirtE30 will be back again for 2010. We have already picked up a few key parts, as well as a new design, and theme that hopefully will impress the judges this year, unlike 2009. Once again it was great to see everyone at the challenge, and to all the people I met it was a great time. After hearing what some people have planned for 2010 I cant wait... Good luck and start early.

Good to meet all you guys too, looking forward to seeing the chopped Festiva next year :) Pucker factor was very high in initial testing, especially when I almost hit the wall at 90 a few weeks ago, but by the time the challenge rolled around we had close to 50 passes under our belts and it wasn't quite as frightening. I still couldn't convince anyone else on the team to take a pass though lol...
