Been meaning to ask for a bit but keep forgetting. About half the time I go to Publix I have an idle issue when I get ready to leave. It'll start fine but the idle hunts around and is low. No CEL so I assume no codes to read. It'll rev freely and I can drive off with no issues at all. And yes I know it's not Publix as it happened at Target the other day also. I'd guess we're inside for 15-30 minutes.

I have one car that acts oddly when the engine temp is right around 160. Once it's up to 180, it's fine. When it's cold, it's fine. Probably just a sensor that's not quite working at 100%. I suspect something similar in your case.

I've had two Miatas the had funky idles. I think the original timing belts were stretched. New belts and a proper timing adjustment took care of the idle.

Woody i think he means that it will run fine and once it is off for 10-20 mins it hunts around idling once you start it back up. It seems like a really common issue. Mine does it and i see a lot of posts on various miata forums about it.

In reply to MrChaos:

Yep you got it. She's probably due for a timing belt and general tune up so I'll start there first.

My brg hated the frys electronics in Roseville. Twice at the redlight in front of the store the spark plug wires separated themselves from the studs by the firewall they plugged into(coil pack? Whatever it's called). Just randomly.

That's also the place the person that was renting it from me finally killed the transmission.

Car just hated that place, I think because of how much money I spent on computer parts versus car parts.

Back in the early days of electronic fuel injection, there was a section of road in New Hampshire that was lethal to injected VW's. They would die for no reason, and start up as soon as they were moved away from the area. Turned out the lighting amplifier for a billboard was sending out an RF signal that would suppress the system controller on VW's. Fix the billboard, drive on by! It also happened sometimes during the CB craze in the 70's. Key the mike, and your Volvo shuts off. Fun times.
