I'm a TIG noob so I can not explain what happened today, and google didn't help. I was welding aluminum, using the pedal, and when I released the pedal the arc did not stop. It acted like I was still lightly pressing the pedal, doing the cleaning action. What would cause this?

Does your machine have an automatic function to ramp the current down? I was always taught to gradually pull current, not just snap it off suddenly, so maybe yours does it automatically?

Hmmm, is that the "Down Slope" setting? I didn't intentionally change that setting but maybe it got bumped when I put everything away the other night.

is it in 2T when it should be in 4T, or vice versa?

Basically, thumb switch (ON/OFF) or foot pedal.

Yes, that would do it.

Junk pedal rheostat is a possibility as well if you don't find an adjustment on the front of the machine that fixes it.

I have to periodically clean my foot pedals, and one still hangs occasionally. Giving it a toe tap on the heel end shuts it off when it misbehaves.

Today it's acting normal, but my work piece is grounded more securely.

I was thinking operator error.
