It's a V-Star 950. I bought it when the housing market crashed and they couldn't GIVE bikes and ATVs away. The sticker was something like $8,500 and I walked out for just under $5k. That's why I am not too worried about selling it, it was a screaming deal new, I ride it sometimes, and I really like it.

That said, I don't ride 2-up anymore and I would trade it for a sport-touring bike.

$1500 - $2k seems to be the sweet spot that a running bike doesn't depreciate below.

Traded my Magna 750 for a Concours 1000 a few years ago thinking I wanted a sport-tourer. Lasted about 3 weeks before I ran out of traction and talent simultaneously.

If one must ride, get something slow. Skin sucks to regrow.

Just got another text overnight asking if still available, when I said yes this morning, he asked if I was interested in a trade. When I said I already had two bike offers, I haven't heard from since...

Bikes didn't depreciate as badly in the '90s up through the mid-2000s. In the '80s though they totally tanked though since everybody wanted sportbikes but had UJMs and AMF-era Harleys. Harleys hadn't gotten cool again yet... Motley Crue and W.A.S.P. weren't enough to help the brand overcome its janky reputation. Also in the '80s the dirt bikes got leaps and bounds better each year.

Back to today, there's too many poorly modified sportbikes on the market due to DMX. And the Harley guys are aging out quickly.

pinchvalve wrote: So I own a motorcycle. The current MSRP is $9,999 for a new one. Mine is a few years old, but is exactly the same as new in every way except for mileage, which is low. When I realized that I was not riding as much as I used to (kids) I listed it for $5,000. Mine has some nice upgrades, so that was a real deal IMHO. Then I dropped it to $4500. Then $4000. Not one nibble. Before dropping it to $3,500 I decided just to keep it and just ride more. If I could trade it for something listed at $5,000, that would be a real bargain for me, but I haven't attempted it because I know that no one wants used motorcycles. The market sucks for sellers, but for buyers of used bikes, it is a great time!

What you need to do is start low and then add $200 every week or two.

Local people on CL seem to think the Honda 250L dual sport (nice red one please) is worth what they paid for it 3 years ago. Drives me nuts.
My favorite trade offers are the XBox's and AR-15's.

I have to add "NO TRADES" to all my CL ads.

Now I'm back to low-ball offers. The latest is a text asking do you have it, then what's the lowest you'll take? Before I could reply he says he's 15 and wants his first car and only has $3k (the ad clearly says $5k or a reasonable offer). I was getting concerned that I wasn't getting typical CL replies.

Isn't that leather and helmet hot?

True. But believe it or not, there was a time and place where a 305 Monza Spyder with a clean smelling interior would impress on prom night. Guns don't impress girls then or now. At least not any I would have ever been interested in.

I'm not sure I have much to add, but if anyone in the PacNW wants to trade an Aprilia V-twin for some choice AE86 spares and new-in-the-box tuner parts (plus cash if needed) I'm all ears!!!

That said, sadly, 'mechanic's special' project personal watercraft, used barbeques, and pit bikes have zero trade appeal for me. Several-year-old smallbore cruisers (domestic or foreign) are also not equivalent to an Aprilia V-twin, in case anyone gets any wacky ideas...

Hehe...only if it has flat tires, no functional lighting, and expired/no tags.
