Looking for a K.I.S.S. mounting solution that'll let me simply move a single winch across a couple of trailers and also mount on my shop floor to get things yanked into the side bay. I was envisioning some sort of flat plate that stays with the winch with a pair of keyholes for some largish bolts that I'd have permanently on each trailer/shop floor.
Anyone think of a more elegant solution?
Hitch receivers are popular. Mount the winch on the male part, and put females where needed. Front bumper, trailer, work bench.
I've seen it a lot in the off-road world so I *assume* it would be fine for vehicles not stuck in deep mud as well.

I thought about that. The only negative I could come up with is that in my enclosed trailer the receiver would be a little in the way "the rest of the time". Figure if I had nuts welded on the backside for my "bolt/keyhole" solution, I could just snug the bolts all the way down when I didn't have the winch in the enclosed trailer, or remove them (and promptly lose them).
I did the hitch mount receiver with nice electrical connectors on my golf cart. Move it front or back depending on how I needed to pull myself out. It could easily be adapted to fit a trailer too.
Take the flat plate and drill a hole to fit a 2 inch ball , also some holes with slots to hook a chain into ,
I have used this plate to wrap a chain around a tree , hook in and pull a dead car around the yard..
Same plate can be used on a trailer , either bolted on or chained around the tongue ,

If you aren't trying to drag something without wheels, E track would probably be strong enough. Maybe two strips of it if you are worried about the load.
I use a 4500lb ATV winch in my trailer and it never struggles with a rolling car or truck.

Similar to this . . . On my trailer the receiver is mounted vertically and even with the deck. It is never in the way of anything. I just drop the winch into the receiver.

I embedded a piece of 2" square tubing in the concrete floor of a shop- the male receiver hitch would slip right in.
2nd idea... My trailer has a winch permanently mounted on it with a long cable. My current shop has a hook in the front wall. I mount a cable snatch block to it and can pull cars into my shop with the trailer parked outside without de mounting the winch.
So as a random thought -- I've been told that Harbor Freight's winches are actually pretty decent these days, and they have a 2000 lb "trailer/utility" winch for $50. So maybe it's easier just to buy a couple of those?
I have a small winch mounted to a plate, and I added a strap with a hook. In the shop I have D-ring bolted to the floor which isn't particularly in the way. That could be replicated in a trailer or just use existing mounting points.
