I'd been thinking about doing a school for a long time, and while I was up at Lime Rock for the Vintage Festival this weekend I talked to the guys in the Skip Barber tent at some length to figure out which course was best for me. Long story short: I'm signed up for the 1-Day Racing School. A full day of track time in the Miata and Formula car. Not sure about the date yet, but either this fall or in the spring, I'll be on the track for the first time in a long while. I am looking forward to it.

Color me jealous, can I ask what the price is?

The price - booked at the booth rather than online and paid in full - was $1440. The website price is $1900, and the full price listed on the forms at the booth was $1800, so the discount was substantial. That's what made me take the leap at that moment.

That's the same pricing as the 1-Day High Performance school, which I was also considering. When I talked to the instructors at the booth, they suggested that the Racing School would be a better fit for me, since I autox'd a bunch and done some other stuff over the years. They also told me it's really just a gateway drug to the 3-Day Racing School....

Considering you are using their cars and consumables it is not too far off from an HPDE with your car.

That is a pretty fair price considering a spec E30 rental costs $800-900 per day before you pay any entry fees - and you are getting access to two vehicles and instruction for $1440. It's on-par with an arrive and drive race weekend.

Hmm... $1500 and you don't need your own car... since I trust none of mine for track work. I like the sound of that.

Not bad, paying for a seat on a competitive LeChump team is in the same ballpark these days and you never know if you'll even get a go or not. Any way to get that kind of discount when not registering in-person?

The best discount I could find prior to going to the booth at LRP was 10% off for booking 90+ days in advance. It might be worth calling and talking to them to see if there are any other options for getting a lower price.

Wow. Inflation. I went to Barber for the 5 day racing school plus a Barber Series race weekend for $3800..... in 1989.
