The most desirable Subaru? Perhaps the 1998 Impreza 22B STI. Only 424 were built, with the rally-influenced model celebrating the brand’s 40th anniversary.

It's the Only STI where, instead of being called a fanboi, you're bestowed the title "rally enthusiast"

I loved these cars so much until I owned a few wrxs and stis, then it wore off quite a bit. I drove a saabaru the other day, made me really miss my bugeye, interesting that that is the one that sticks with me not the stis.  Somehow the 2.0 was a little more endearing and the stylish and aesthetics were less cartoonish to me.

You can still get one for about a buck.

But the 22B was a super rare version of the GC, not the big fat GD, which was more or less a Legacy in dimensions.  (Subaru is nothing if not pragmatic, they reuse parts as much as possible)

That added wheelbase kills the feel, and the GCs were a lot lighter too.  This is most of why GC 2.5RSs are worth more than any GD short of the STi.

It is 100% the coolest subaru in history to date. It's honestly one of the coolest cars of the entire decade.

I'll be honest that I was thinking 22R when I clicked on this thread.

The issue of SCC with the 22B vs. Evo (whatever was the billy badass model that year, Evo VI TME?) article was my favorite of all time.  Because of the Subaru.

If you can feel .2" of wheelbase, your butt dyno is more sensitive than mine.

I came in here thinking it was a weird variant of a 20B.

That's really weird!  I remember checking imprezawrx.com every day in the 2000 era as they continued to put out updates and speculation,  and then being horrified when they unveiled the horribly ugly nose and revealed the 103" wheelbase.

I'm pretty sure I had my 2003 WRX weighed at a Prosolo once and they told me it was right around 100" (they use that to know where to put the scales), but I have not measured personally (and don't have the car anymore). FWIW :)
