My search for a smaller battery for packaging problems lead me to the trusty odyssey.  Im pretty much set on this battery.  But would you trust a "used" on off ebay?  Am I setting myself up for a knockoff that works half as well? I obviously like the price.  But I dont want to end up stuck with a junk battery that has now left me stranded somewhere.

If it works, it's an amazing battery- I had one for years in my Alfa.  But I let it die, and am trying (again) to slowly bring it back.

Anyway you can get some real charge data on it before comitting?

Also, check out Odyssey's web page for charging details- they have a small charger that they sell with their batteries.  And convienently info includes the charge profile.  So you could find a much cheaper version of that charger, too.

BTW, if you start w/o a jump, it's not going to leave you stranded later on the trip.  The battery is darned robust.

Ask yourself, how much money will you save? What does a call for a tow truck cost? How much is your time worth while you sit there waiting?

Are you the type that steps over dollars to pick up pennies?

In short if it's a local used battery for sale, OK if it's junk you can go back to the original seller and get satisfaction.
If not and that's what you want put some  money  in the deal for peace of mind and confidence.

Used, probably not.

I'm running a Deka AGM motorcycle battery in the Abomination that was about that size and price new.

I would trust that particular seller.  He looks legit.  His very few negative feedbacks are addressed.  He's sold a bunch of the things.  It might be good to learn the date of manufacture.

Now whether it's a screamin' deal or not, I can't say.

Odysseys and CTEK 7002 chargers get along very well.

The one in the pic appears to be 4 years old.

Personally I wouldn't buy a 4 year old battery.

You can get a new lithium ion 12-volt with a higher cold cranking amp rating that weighs less cheaper.

I've had too many RC batteries flake out because they got warm or were stored with too little or too much power in them to trust a lithium car battery in a charging system designed for lead-acid. Same with lithium jump packs.

A PC680 will reliably start a four cylinder and will sit, disconnected, for a year and retain almost full charge. I use a 925 for my V8 car. You'll get a decade or two of use out of one. There are places to save weight that's not somewhere I'm willing to go.

Can I impose for a suggestion?  I see what Kieth was getting at, but some batteries have many protections built in.  Especially since a Lithium battery that would work would have to be LIFePO4, since it runs the same cell voltage as lead batteries.  A Lithium Ion battery would not charge with the alternator- as the regulated voltage is too low.

I'm in the market for cheap Lithium batteries that run like lead acid batteries.

I looked I to lithium a little, the car this is going in still sees street time, and occasionally gets driven to work and out to run errands or whatever.  I wanted to avoid lithium, and just go with something I wouldn't have too much trouble with.  Settled with the odyssey.

An odyssey and a kill switch and the car will sit without attention for months and months.
