I'm planning to get my Miata wrapped in some obnoxious color later this year. Said car has peeling clear coat (odd on a car that had single stage paint from the factory) and weird holes in the paint. Both issues are on the driver's side fender and door so I assume someone did a poor job fixing accident damage. I need to fix both issues before getting the wrap done. The clear should be daily straight forward: blast off what I can with my pressure washer and then feather the rest so there won't be a hard line in the wrap. The holes are a different story. I'm not sure if I need to fill them with something and then sand smooth, or if I can just sand them down. This is where you, dear reader, come in. What's my best plan of action here?
I had the same thing on a Miata that I wrapped. I had to strip mine. Just feather out the peeling area and buy some white primer from Napa. Wipe it down with wax and grease remover. Mask the fender off so you do not get overspray all over. Tack it off. And blend the primer over the painted area so UT is all a shade of white again.
That is Napa white primer
Be careful with primer... I had a car that was primered before I wrapped it, and as the primer turned to dust, so did the wrap's hold. I'd say you want to hit it with at least a rattle can gloss coat. To be fair, the primer was pretty beat on it.
If you're just going white, though, may I suggest rolling it?

I'm not going white. It'll be some sort of purple. Something that Mazda never made.

Groovy! In that case, make sure the surface is smooth and clean. Have fun!

Yeah should be fun. I figured why limit myself to a factory color when there's a whole world of options!
