Yep :) or 4 but I think I like the 6.
have fun with an engine that weighs more than the car... That car is begging for a 4200 vortec and a turbo.

True, but do you have any idea how far they can be boosted??

Consider the torque! Consider the hp!

Consider 2 exhaust stacks belching black diesel exhaust straight up!

Oh dear...I need to calm down!

I'm a little late to the party, but I thought it was worth saying...you're in deep on this one if it's supposed to end up pretty AND functional!

I like the idea of the Atlas 4200 or maybe a boosted Ecotec. I am so in love with a direct injected Ecotec at this point that I spend more time thinking of why NOT to use it than the contrary.

I think leaving the body fairly stock is a good thing, but as far as suspension and interior, no reason not to upgrade things. Rather than jaguar rear suspension, what about nascar/60-72 GM truck style trailing arms? It doesnt seem like it would be that hard to do, and that would be pretty awesome as well.
Suspension will definitely see an upgrade. I may pester Andy to let me come look at his work (Im a hands on learner) and work out a nice 4 link for the rear. Front will probably get a mustang II subframe or similar as long as it will fit properly and be "hidden" mostly so it doesnt detract from the look. I'm not looking for oodles of power, just a nice, *reliable* cruiser. Truth is the drivetrain choice will most likely be decided the way most of us decide things....whatever I find cheap at the time Im ready to buy :)

Hey Jim, We just picked up a 28 Chevy that will likely receive a 4200 if I find one right. Otherwise it will be a 350. Shocking! Make sure you put the third Saturday of May on your calendar for the Jalopy Showdown in York Springs PA. A bunch of GRM'ers go to the Showdown. Very cool find. If you do take the top off, please let me know about the tin. A

Indeed I do.. I worked at Holset for 4 years.

I had the opportunity to work on a Rodeo du Camion truck. If you don't know what it is.. Google it. Sooooooo Awesome. I need to get to Canada for it next year.

What is it with you and I and the parallel projects these days? I pick up an MG and a 5.0 for a build and there you are with a nice little MG project to make me feel completely inadequate. ;)

And now we have dual pre 30s cars goin?

I assume/hope there is a good swapmeet at the showdown? I need to find a front subframe for the build.

Of course my daughter has now seen pictures and seeing as how she's been on a Steampunk kick she has her own ideas of how this should progress.

EcoTec would be too small to fill that awesomely looonnngg engine bay!

I'm thinking either a BMW E30 2.5 inline 6 or a Datsun L28 with dual SU's would fill the engine bay and give it some classic SU nostalgia.

The inline 6 makes good torque and is really friendly on the street and parts are readily available for either engine.

are those original wood spoked wheels?

You want wierd, you got long and LARGE-ish: a pair of \6's? Side by each, offset about 15" lengthwise? No idea for tranny, though. Just thinking out loud, here...don't shoot the messenger. You DID ask for ideas. Never did specify good ideas...

Yes, original wood spokes. Very cool but wont be staying as I doubt they'd hold up to the stresses put on it by any modern drivetrain. Plus I'd have to adapt them to whatever modern suspension I put under it.

Waaay off in the future on this decision but Im diggin these wheels if I can find someone to faux paint the spokes in wood and the rim black.
