Now's your chance to build something :) try a kit car? Do something awesome like the GT40 from RCR or a Beck 904.

I have built ~6 kit cars in the past for myself or other people I am past that stage in my life. Though I would love to get a exocet and just build as cheap as I could with as many cool bits as I can convince my old bridgeport to kick out.
430's can get this cheap but not without major stories. There is a beautiful Ferrari 330GT for sale by a client of mine that I would love to pony up for but the wife hates Ferrari's after our last one burst into flames.
In reply to wearymicrobe:
I'd avoid 430s in that price range then if there are no service records then. The negligence will show long after the sweet price of the car.
The 330 GT would be an awesome score and an awesome piece to bring to local Cars and Coffee meets as well as some Ferrari Club meets!
I wish I had something useful to add to this thread, but I've never even seen one of those in person, much less know anything about them.
Nothing too old or too snooty? How old is too old? How about one of the later Espirit V8?
I agree with whomever said Exige earlier. That is the car I lust after, but if the Viper is your play car, then that's not a good choice for you in this case.
Given the opportunity and the means, I would ALWAYS go vintage. Old cars in good condition will always be better long term investments than old hat exotics.

Classic Clarkson:

You must share this story
308 GTB with a bad factory fuse box, turned headlights on, then bad things happened. All solved with a good fire extinguisher. But deep down my wife hated the car. Mainly due to the other stuff, men would follow her when she would drive it. Ask really inappropriate questions.
One followed her from one light to another and she let him have it after he asked her if she would marry him.
I will have another WWGRMD after a bit of thought. I am going to do a bit more digging on the Spyker but I doubt its going to pass muster.
Morgan Aero 8 or Plus 8? The sound and interior of an Aero 8 are hard to beat. I haven't driven one but a guy in the British car club locally has one really nice car.

Did the battery recently die in it before you started it or did you jump it with some jumper cables or jump box?

Someone has owned a 308.

When the battery dies, the voltage regulator hangs wide open. Soaks all the electricity you give it from the jumpers or jump box. When it was jumped, it probably fried the voltage regulators, then fuse box, then it's smore time!

I don't fit real well in the super sport. But I sat in a very early car and I have not seen a convertible. I would really need the 2010 headlight straightening kit though.
Plus it would really need to be in a GOOD colo, like the french blue and cream.

I fixed the box with replacement parts to keep the resale up, but I know that there is a much better aftermarket solid state one now that fixes all the lovely problems with the 308.
I once looked at Ferrari once where they had removed everything and just replaced the fuses with cut up paperclips and solder.

I have sat in an earlier car convertible and found it to be fairly good for me. I am 6' 2" 210lbs.

I noted your exocet interest which is why I made the suggestion. I DO like the other mentions here for something classy and vintage like the aforementioned 330GT
What are the odds that you buy the Spyker, drive it for a few months, and sell it again before anything breaks?
The natural complement to your Viper seems to be a GT car, like a Maserati GT. Its styling makes me think of an RX-8 that was de-Urkeled. Their values will probably continue to plummet, though.

Honestly not much, I have been holding onto my cars a good bit longer then I used to and there is no way in the world that I could get one cheap enough to ever make any money at all.

What i was thinking after the first page.
Or, I had a WTF moment this weekend when a Qvale pulled away from a lane over this weekend. seems to fit the bill of affordably unique and won't try to kill you, even if it's a little uninspiring:
wearymicrobe wrote:DukeOfUndersteer wrote:Sounds like its not a good car. As for the Aston I really love the looks but they just don't have the oomph to justify the cost. Plus I drove the V12V and it is everything I want the car to be but at three times the price of a vantage. The R8 is boring, at least in the v8/auto that is in this price point, and I have had way way to many Porsche's at this point.wearymicrobe wrote:I honestly believe that an Aston Vantage (not sure how much they have depreciated to) or a 997 C4 or even an R8 would be better bang for the buck. Not trying to scare you off. They are very pretty cars. Hell, the North American Sales Manager was an ex-Finnish model! Just not a good car. That's all.DukeOfUndersteer wrote: In reply to wearymicrobe: It is a pretty car. We sold 2 at Lambo at a sticker price of $200,000. Last I heard, Akon, the rap artist, got an '07 for $50,000. MAJOR depreciation value. Compared against Gallardos and 430s and 997 twins, it's a turd. A pretty turd, but still a turd. Oh, always got shocked when opening the door since the door handle is the push button on the mirrorThose are the prices that I am seeing for car with more then say 4K miles in the 06/07 range. Not often that you can get a 200K car for 1/4 the price with lets be charitable and say reasonable repair costs.
<--- Jealous
I wouldn't get the Spyker. Don't like the looks, DukeofUndersteer pointed out that it's a PITA, I'm sure it's almost entirely made of special Spyker parts.
The Evora is a good suggestion. Looks better IMO, known not to be a PITA on the street, fairly light and the powertrain is all easily available and highly reliable Toyota stuff, and I'm sure the Lotus parts will be easier to get.
I think the Spyker is ugly, over styled, and the interior is simply ghastly. Why not get an Escalade rolling on dubs with lots of bling-bling for the same effect and less $$$? Ugly, ugly car.
That is what you want.
Datsun1500 wrote: You and I have messaged offline before about the Astons, and seem to have a very similar taste in cars. (owning the same ones at different times it seems ) I owned an 09 for 6 months (bought it used for 1/2 off of course). Everything Duke said is spot on. It is a great car to look at in the garage, not a great car to drive. The R8 is a better car, but they have not dropped to $60K yet. I wanted it to be a great car, I wanted to like it. I just did not want to drive it after doing so about 6 times... If you want a car that gets looks, this is it, most have never seen one in person. If you want a car to drive, pass. That being said, my classic mini gets looks AND is fun to drive message me if you want more info, and we can talk on the phone, but it sounds like you already are leaning away from it.
Yeah leaning pretty far away at this point. Budget is not 60K its more like 90ish if I am honest at this point. Might just take the cash from the prowler and toss it someplace safe for the time being. I can always find something at a later date that might work.
