So I have a line on a cheap, I mean really cheap, 986 with 112k on it with a solid body (zero rust, 2-3 some dings that paint dent repair can handle). It has NOT had the IMS bearing done and the top needs so light repair. The "problem" is that for roughly 10k I could pick up the 986, a running 5.3L LS powered donor and the renegade hybrid kit, but I have 2 other projects that I really should finish before taking on such an endeavor and I don't really need an LS powered 986, although I'd likely find myself dailying it and autocrossing it once a month.

So what does the class think I should do?

Finish the two projects first. Adding another one will probably have you sell one or two unfinished projects, which won't be good if someone can't or doesn't finish it.

The Remmington 986 is a fine wheel gun. I think a 5.3 might be overkill...

Provided there are no other constraints preventing you from having all three projects going on at once, while each takes longer and costs more than expected, I would say do it. You'll still have to prioritize the projects, and still be happy with whatever that means for each project. But keep in mind this is advice from somebody that doesn't even have the option for more than one car project at a time, so take it with a grain of salt.

I couldget the Mazda rally project in running order in a weekend, not to as I'd ultimately like it as completed, but running and enabling it to become "future" return to project form. The Volvo would likely become the backburner project wise. SWMBO is pro boxster, but I'm pretty sure that she has designs on driving it once completed, which I'm fine with once she's completed 3-6 HPDEs in it with positive instructor feedback.

the boxster sold before I could get down there this afternoon. I'll be keeping my eyes open for another though. This will at least enable me to get at least one of the projects close to where I'd like to have it.

You'll need to log in to post.
