Saw this on AutoBlog. Apparently the "S" was a rare version with only 6 built. This Jag looks awesome. I love how the gauges are in the door on the second pic.

I can't say there's really any supercars that do it for me, but that makes me weak in the knees.

I think the standard XJ220 is simply dated. That, on the other hand, looks strangely modern. I know he used Lambo Rev paint, and modern lights, but for some reason it looks like it could have been created yesterday.

I saw two in LA in 2006, light reflection only shows one. This was at Keulians (sp) which was a high end exotics dealership. They were not for sale and both were owned by on guy, a dentist. I also believe that there was a full feature on the three in the US in European car magazine about six years ago.

Wow!! Jag needs to get back to its roots!!! That thing is insane!

History has been kinder to this car than the original buying public.

The car came at the tail end of a supercar boom in the 90's. The car was promised and deposits taken for a car with a 12 engine (as befits a Jag). What was delivered was a V6.

Not to say that the V6 was inadequate, but buyers were not happy. A lot of these sat around for while until that sin was forgotten.

IIRC, Jag raced that model in IMSA, right?

The poor thing was the victim of several different problems: cost cutting, emissions, speculation and a worldwide recession. IIRC the original plans called for a OHC V12 and AWD, for some flukey reason the driveshaft to the front was supposed to run through the center of the engine block in roughly the same position that a pushrod V8 camshaft was supposed to go. For various reasons they used the Tom Walkinshaw Racing supplied twin turbo V6 which, as NOHOME says, was more than adequate but didn't have the 'cachet' of the V12. It also went to rear wheel drive only.

The IMSA jags weren't production based... GTP stands for Grand Touring Prototypes for a reason.

Always considered the XJ220 to be the best looking supercar myself.

Not in IMSA, I don't think we had an XJ220 racecar over here... They did well at LeMans in 1993:

But you could buy a car based on the IMSA XJR-9, the XJR-15

Yep. "The Masters Series". Unfortunately, the races were held on a tiny "road course" that was part 1/4 mile oval, with basically an auto-x bit thru the infield.

The show was "Fast Masters", aka Past Masters as it featured drivers a bit beyond their prime:

A lot of those cars didn't make it to end.

Good call. I knew it was something like that. Totally forgot it was at IRP. I remember the track being shorter.

I saw one of the 220S at SEMA a few years ago. I had no idea it was something other than a regular 220 until I read the plackard in the window, very cool.

Caught an old Top Gear last night that featured 80s supercars vs modern (Carrera GT, etc.) supercars. The Jag 220 surprisingly kicked the V12 Pagani's ass in the drags, but that's all they used it for.

I always thought these things were gorgeous. I hadn't seen a pic in a while and I find my tastes have matured a little. While I still think it's OK looking it doesn't make me wet my pants anymore.

Notice how long the car is behind the rear wheel. That looks funny to me now.

There was one driving around in Carmel (the town next to Pebble Beach) during last years auto weekend. It sounds predatory.

Yeah, I seem to remember they destroyed more than six cars.
