Doing a little more work on the beater 944 turbo today, I finally decided I ought to take a look at the air filter. I found a K&N panel filter that I'm cleaning now. I also found all this: The filter was absolutely caked with stuff in addition to the nest sitting on top, yet it was clean as a whistle underneath. I may have found the reason it's been running pig rich; we will see after the filter gets oiled and reinstalled in the morning. I will also have to use zip ties to close the filter housing as all the bolt holes in the base are fubar'd - I have nice pink ones that will be just right.
