never owned a fastback Caprice, but i've had 3 fastback Impalas- 2 77's and a 79- which is just a lower trim level of the same car.. all were solid, and the most i paid for one was $300.. but that was over a decade ago, and i think prices have gone up a bit..
regarding interiors: the 87 and newer dash is nicer than the older dash and bolts in.. it looks similar, but it's just different enough to not look so cheap.. also, the 87-89 9C1 has a 120mph speedo, which just looks better and is easier to drive without cruise control since 60mph is straight up..
An 87-90 9C1 is on my short list of cars to build. By all means, put one together, but leave me one too. 
speaking of the coupes.... This is the dream OLOA build for me:
Vinyl roof and all.
It's got a V8 and a full frame. Do you guys think this could pull double duty as a car hauler?

I towed a boat to the mountains with a 87. It did fair. Needed more spring in the back and better gears in the rear, but it got the job done.
...Might look into a car dolly. I'm sick of giving my money to tow drivers...
It should handle a tow dolly without any problems.

I drove a cab while in university. The B wagons were my favourite. I would love a resto rod wagon, or even a four door. They are a nice size, and I think very handsome, especially on the right wheels.

I used to have the same wheels on a 78 Delta 88 coupe. When I bought that car it was zinc chromate primer courtesy of the USAF. This color. 
I shot it industrial enamel white with a Wagner, in the parking lot across the street from the house. It never did rust.
