My girlfriend, who has ridden in many autocrosses, drove for the first time this weekend. I now have permission to drag home a Miata! She got 16 runs over the 2 days (NWPCA and ORPCA "Shootout at the Mill) in the RX-7. She lopped time off of nearly every run, and even corrected a spin once (after spinning 2 runs earlier). I'm really enthused that she's "got the bug" like I do. There's a drag race next week and a few more autocrosses coming up she'll be able to go to so we'll see what happens.
Our plan now to fix up the Duster (which I push-bumpered home with the cop car... don't ask) and sell it. We'll use the profit as the start of our "Miata Fund" and buy one in the winter when they're dirt cheap to fix up for next season for both of us to race (or maybe just her! ).
In other GRM news... My RX-7 rolled over 235,000 miles on the long drive to Packwood Saturday. It made 45 Autocross runs over the course of two days!!! 45!!! That poor car had 3 drivers entered in 2 days of racing (John, Audra, and myself) plus I let another person take it out for 3 fun runs when the car they were driving ran into issues (that we solved with my as yet unused 3/8" spacers from the cop car). It never missed a beat. When John and I were dual-driving it we left it running and literally each made 8 runs one right after the other. We only had enough time to swap drivers and numbers before it was time to go again. This car now has a total of 220 timed autocross runs on it since I bought it in February 2008...
Oh, and I'm downloading a bazillion pictures to upload to my blog. The camera and computer have been talking for 20 minutes and they still aren't done...
