Didn't accomplish much on the rx7, other than get it up on stands and do a little cleaning on it. But I did score a Helluva deal on some spare parts for it.
I stopped by an import shop where a friend of mine works, and found a nice set of tail-light assemblies off an '85 rx7 on a shelf in one of the parts rooms. Through Mazdatrix, the right-side assembly is $232, while the left is NLA. I walked out with both of them, plus the center finish-panel that goes between them for $30.
But before I walked out, I was also able to score a spare 12a, with a good 5-speed out of an fb. My buddy that works at this shop wrecked his 7 several years ago. He pulled the engine, and refreshed it with Atkins full rebuild kit, and dropped it into one of his tr7's. After a Couple thousand miles, he pulled it in favor of a 302. Engine has been pickled and bagged ever since, and gets hand-turned every couple weeks to maintain some spinnage.
Cost for the engine/transmission??? Ummm... How about FREE!!!
Yep, all of this for no more $$ than a minor bar-tab. Life is good!!!
sometimes good deals just sort of happen.. i was just given a brand new Wilwoodclutch/brake pedal setup- the kind that mounts dual master cylinders for the brakes and has the adjustable brake distribution bar- for free... he also gave me a brand new Wilwood clutch pedal, too.. all because he discovered that he needed to get the reverse mounted stuff after mockup and was just going to throw them away...
do i need them? no...
will i ever use them? maybe..
will they look cool hanging on the wall- hells yeah..
That's a hell of a score, congrats sir.

Nice score!!! Free wall-art is always cool, especially if it's something that could be used as trade for something else you could actually use later on.
The whole engine deal came about because my friend that has it loves early rx7's, and hates Miatas. He is not going to use the engine, and appreciates the fact that I finally bought a car that he approves of.
And I take it you didn't even have to use your AK...sounds like a good day.
OK, I'll be the one to say it, Will.
YOU SUCK !!
Now put the free rotary in the X!-9 and show up at the Challenge.

Nope, no firearms required... As much as I hate people in general, I've found that shooting them just eliminates possible good deals from them in the future.

Nah, I don't have time to make that happen, so the x1/9 needs to find a new home.
The engine will be for rx7-use only. Besides, the Mazda is already under budget for the Challenge, so that's what I will run, if I can make it down there.
if you want to sell the pedal assemblies, i'd be interested.
i need to order some for the new circle track car
let me know
