So some of you have seen I have been thinking about adding another car to the garage. Right now I have.
1955 Thunderbird
1965 Spec Racer FFR Shelby Cobra
1999 F350 XL
2015 i3
2015 VW Beetle
Been looking for something that does not scratch any of those itches. Narrowed down to a couple choices
-
1957 Cadillac, fully restored 90/100 point car.
-
1955 Porsche 550 Spyder kit car with lower power say 90hp plus money to update the cobra to ~400rwhp and slicks for a few seasons.
-
1930's Era Packard super-8 (Cannot find a good one currently)
-
Sell cobra and Tbird buy F360 Scuderia or maybe find a street legal Atom.
-
Something else entirely.
Leaning against the Cadillac it just feels like a really heavy TBird in my mind. Which is what I thought that I wanted. Car has impact I will say that. I have a 550 that is already registered that I can pickup reasonably right down the street.
I would go with the 550. You have the classic cruiser, you have to powerful beast, the truck, and the DD. What it seems your missing is the light car to toss about.
I love old Packards, that would be my pick.
An old Packard would be nice but I vote for #4. Ferrari or Atom. Now you are talking!!

Leaning towards it. Could also do a nice lotus exige with some mods and still squeak out the money to upgrade the cobra this year as well.
Sell the cobra and the tbird and buy a BMW Z8. Totally cool cars that you won't loose a nickel on when it comes time to resell it.

Already had one for a little while. BLECH.

That is basically what I have heard from every source. The Alpina version is interesting. Basically the only time Alpina toned down a car.
Packard always has my vote.
Any of the three P's are good. Packard, Peerless or Pierce-Arrow.
As for the Tucker that keeps getting brought up, any of you guys priced one lately? You don't just shop for a Tucker, at this point you're waiting for a collector to die or get bored.

I have owned something like 115 cars and sold another 200 beyond that for people and I have never once seen a tucker for sale in any condition for offer. Never really looked.
As for the Z8, I only drove the non Alpina version for a few days and it was very cool but a very broken car from a usability standpoint. This is damning praise, it feels like a upscale prowler to me. Shoot me down.
Porsche kit if you can't find a good Packard.
So yeah I bought a pink 57 Cadillac DeVille two door with a complete interior upgrade out of a barittz.
It was way way under market cost and I am a sucker for a pink car. Plus it's only 19 feet long and not 22 feet long like my 61 so I can actually do I've it. Amazing what 3 foot less of car will do. Have enough left over to get the 550 in a month or two once I sell a motor or two that I built
Cool find. Where's the pics
?
On my mobile right now when I get home will post
Totally didn't expect that. Cool car though. I like it. Seems like a cool cruiser.

What do you think of the standard 360? I'm looking right now. Found a nice blue/tan locally I like. I know blue will be a harder resale down the road but I love the color. Can't swing a 360cs or 430 without dumping some other cars, so that's not an option.

I LOVE the standard 360. I actually like it a bit more then I like the F430 because it has a more usable power around town and in the mountains. on the track I would skip right to the 458 though. I have never driven the 458 only been a passenger. If you are willing to buy a car that needs service and can do some of the work yourself the F360 is in a real sweat spot right now. Still want one for myself.
FYI the blue is a positive and a negative. Cheaper to buy, but easier to sell at the lower price. The only break to this is the TDF blue. You will pay a premium for that

I think this one is nart blue. It's either nart or tdf, but I haven't have a chance to look at it in person yet. Thanks for the feedback. I'm hoping to pick one up in the next few months.
Photos if they work.
Painted in Dusty Rose, my absolutely favorite GM color of all time. I even have a Rolex with a dial in a similar color.
Last owner died, in Arizona, sold to a flipper in town I was able to get it away from him cheap enough. Could not build the car for 2.5x the price even if I had a complete shell if front of me for free. Body is straight as a arrow. All the rust was repaired properly and the interior is to die for. All the gauges and windows work. Needs some really basic stuff, tuneup, about 2K in chrome sent out to make it perfect and I am going to paint the roof laced white when it gets here and drop it another 2 inches. Tires are to the cords got to figure out what I can get that will work on the car and look good. Whitewall tires in radial are not going to support the 5300 lb weight. Might have to get some medium duty truck tires at some point to get it to ride well.
I will be into the car sub 25K when I am done selling a few little bits and bobs to the OEM restorers like the air filter assembly and the extra parts in the trunk. Leaves me plenty to make the Cobra into a 400 rwhp monster.

Damn! At first I thought..........an old Caddy over a Ferrari! What!!?? You scored on that one though. That one is extra sweet and to only be into for $25K! I say job well done.
Damn....That at 25K??? That is a no brainer. Pretty car

Does not preclude getting another Ferrari in the future just means I have to make some space for it with another lift or extend the garage. Plus who doesn't want a pick Cadillac at some point in there life maybe at 34 its my midlife crisis car. Part of it is I love tail fins and the 58/59 are just tacky.
That's beautiful. I never picture that when I think of old Caddys. Classy without being gaudy.
That's a good looking car right there. Nice find!
