I've had a couple of CELs pop up on my 4runner after years of happy trouble-free driving.  First one was my fault for not plugging the knock sensor back in after doing a valve cover gasket job.  Now another one.  Doing a quick google search for scanners, it comes up with the blue tooth phone ones and the hard wired plug in models.  Any advice for one type over the other.  I'm not looking for super cheap, but not going cray cray either.  TIA.

Re: the cell phone/bluetooth version...  I have followed this review of adaptors and bought the Panlong version multiple times and have always been great.  With the coupon listed they are less than $11 each.

I use the Torque Pro app with Android which is $4.99 one time.

Do any of the apps read abs errors?

I got a brand new  Snap on scanner last month, free.

That $5200 parka had better be pretty goddam warm.

I've had good luck with ECU, ABS, and airbag codes and live data using the one in this thread:
