I lusted after one of these when I was 15 and started looking for one before I got my license. Other 15 year olds had copies of Playboy, I had an old copy of Hot Rod magazine with the review of the '87 Turbo I would drool over before bed at night. I never did get around to buying one, and now I see the horrible gas mileage they get, I don't know if I ever will. Start another build thread in the Projects section and keep us updated.

C4 Corvettes had the gatorbacks as well.

I've been thinking about these cars more and more lately. I didn't really like them much when they were new because I was such a fan of the previous generation but they seem like a great car now. Good choice. I hope that you have fun with it. Keep us posted.

Ahhh... may I ask you... did you by chance note which allen plug goes where?

I'm doing a porting job right now on a 7MG cylinder head... http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/ost-022-new-numbers/64642/page1/ the shop who cleaned the head for me removed them... but didn't label them as to where they go.

Actually, I love this factory color. Previous owner had replaced this panel after a little ding, and swapped bumpers with the pre-89 supra. Will repaint it the original color after a few more engine mods are done, some oil leaks fixes, and the wheels are polished ;)

But you see, now the collection is (kind of) complete: the front wheel drive project car, the rear wheel drive daily/stand-in auto-Xer, and the All wheel drive beater/take-it-up-in-the-hills-on-the-weekends-and-go-camping mobile ;)

Funny, had a few bad experiences with the All Wheel Drive Corollas. (customer's cars, not mine) Can't be worse that VW electronics, and hell the wiring diagrams are easier to read!!!!

Great question. They are Panasports, and yes, they are real. I believe they are worth more than I paid for the car. Mods include: Newer motor (Japan spec) with paperwork to prove it, less than 160k on motor, ARP head studs, metal head gasket, updated torque specs on head studs (improper torque specs from factory caused many a blown head gasket) HKS 3" downpipe Blitz 3" cat back exhaust 550cc injectors Lexus MAF w/CAI FMIC HKS BOV.... sounds like pure..... ;) Lightweight flywheel Newer clutch Turbo Smart MBC- (currently ~10-12lbs iirc) Megan 32-way Coilovers, which I like a lot actually

All really easy, clean bolt-ons. I have been reading up on these for a while, and lusting after this particular car since December. (My friends are sick of hearing about it, honestly!)

Everything works except for 2 dash gauges, one headlight motor, and the driver';s side window (who cares!?!) Not bad for under 2k...... ;)

Been lusting for a couple years. This one I have had my eyes on since December. Took a couple drives up to Seattle to look at her. Finally got the money, and a scholarship to pay for all of next semester's school, so had to jump at the chance. Not horrible, actually. Filled up in Seattle, gone 200 miles and still have 1/3 tank? Not as good as the diesel VW was, but hey. Well worth the thrill and rush of driving around with that sort of power, handling, and the sounds from the BOV.... I'm such a sucker. :P

Yes, I did. Those are the oil galley plugs, and the large one goes closest to the firewall. The others are identical. I am kind of a perfectionist, so I marked them 1-4, and kept them in their original places. Hope this helps.

BTW, are you using the factory replacement 3rd cyl head cover? Don't forget to get the new crush washers that go under the plugs (you'll tear the gasket otherwise, and that's a $50 gasket!!!)

I used them as autocross tires on my GLH before the Yokohama A-008R came out. The hot setup was to run them in the wrong direction in the dry; we called them "Gatorbackwards".

One day, I WILL finish my MKIII. It's an 86 hardtop.
