No way did I think this could be. A friend told me about it but I didn't believe it until I made the call. I have to believe this is a one off kind of deal, but my friend tells me there are places like this everywhere.
Okay, let me explain. I was talking to a friend of mine about how much trouble I was having getting all the projects done on my Celica. He said there was a place I could call and they would do the work for me! No kidding! I just have to pay them some money. Of course I thought he was pulling my leg, but I called and not only can they install my LSD, they will do some light fabrication to get my panhard bar back down where it should be (and lower my roll center!)
Well, it seems too good to be true, but I'm going to give it a shot. If this really works out, I should have Tom Celica in fighting trim in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how it works out. Maybe there's a place like this where you live!
I'm sorry for your misfortune?
Eddie, NOOOO! I was on that drug for a half a minute..then I got laid off from work. The withdrawal symptoms include bloody knuckles, curse words I didn't even know I knew, and broken windows from flying tools.
you mean you can pay people do the hard work for you? Why wasn't I informed of this earlier?!?
Wait, you mean I can charge people to do hard work?
Yeah, took a bit, but I wised up a little. I've been working on the car for over a year. If I really look at it I have to say "and that's all I've gotten done?"
Time to bring in the pros. Our local summer series starts in April and by jingo that car will be in some kind of state that at least closely resembles Street Prepared.
I don't understand. Do they just take your money or do you have to hand over your dignity and sense of self worth too?
Sounds like a scam. Run far far away.

lol. Well, that's kinda what I thought there for a while, but then I realized running four seconds off the pace was handing over more dignity and sense of self worth than paying someone to work on the car!
I hired an electrician over thanksgiving to do some side work and rewiring.
As I waited for him to show up the wife asked me how it felt to hire someone to come over and get paid to work on something at our house. Really odd.

And as you drank beer and sat on the couch, I'm sure you remarked that you didn't give a hoot. Well, at least that's what I would have been doing and saying.
I've cried "uncle!" a couple times when working on cars. Wasn't super-proud of it, but whatever, the job got done one way or another.

what kind of place is this you speak of fast_eddie?
maybe I should google
they told me that I couldn't install locking differentials in an old Jeep because you needed "special tools" to set up the ring and pinion. Some shops wouldn't even touch it (I asked around). But with all the write ups on the interwebs it was no problem at all. They lock when you hit the switch and they don't whine going down the road.
Don't hire professionals. You too can do it.
It is always either time or money.
When you've got all the time in the world to work on a car, it is easy to save money and DIY.
Sometimes you've got to foot the bill and pay somebody else, though.

That's it exactly. I have no time. Luckily enough, I do have a little scratch right now. Part of this project was learning more about this stuff, so turning some jobs over to a pro stinks a little. But at the end of the day, it's a race car. If I can't race the thing at the level of prep I want to, what's the point? It's just a bunch of money tied up in a slow ass old car. No, I'm to competitive to start the summer series in an SP car that can't beat my E Stock MR2.
