The BMW M5 is known to many as a fantastic sports sedan. So how do you improve upon it? Shove that potent drivetrain into a wagon to create a really appealing sleeper. This 1992 BMW M5 Touring up for auction on Bring a Trailer scratches that exact itch. And best of all, it's not the product of a third-party engine …

$38k? I don't see the appeal at that price.

E34 is such a great look. Wagon only makes it better.

5 series wagons in general are so cool. I'd love to M5 an E39 wagon. First, I need to win the lottery so it's the only thing I'm doing for the next two years.

Well then you definitely won't see the appeal at the near-6-digit number it's going to close at. I'm pretty sure clean 'normal' sedan versions of this car are already going at 50k.

You're right I do but for 38K I can buy a brand new beamer.

I'm actually not a big fan of the E34.

E39 still reigns supreme for me, but sadly only the E61 seems to be available near me.

But then you'll have a new BMW instead of a legendary one. I spent some considerable time in a new X1 last winter and it's a terrible thing. They cost about $38,000.

If I had $38k laying around I'd rather turn my E39 540it into an M5t. I feel like the E39 is the perfect blend of modern and classic BMW traits, and they're still excellent cars even by today's standards.

On the other hand, the E34 M5 was the last truly hand-built M5 and it has one of the last great straight 6 ///M engines.

This is the only thing I can think of that would have improved the final car chase in Ronin.

I came >< this close to buying one of these 4 years ago in Toronto for around $20. Should've.

You know, i've driven a nice e39 540i/6spd and nothing better than a 525 5spd in the e34 generation, but if i were buying one now i'd take the e34. I prefer its slightly older aesthetic.

Plus..

E34 M5 was the last truly hand-built M5 and it has one of the last great straight 6 ///M engines.

That seals it!

No, no Keith, he was talking about a Beamer--- a BMW Motorcycle. You could buy at least two for $38K!
