A racing series that only allows unmodified cars fresh from the showroom floor to compete? That was essentially the whole idea behind showroom stock racing.

That’s where this Toyota MR2 Turbo comes into play.

Prepared to race in 1991, the MR2 would compete in the 1992 and 1993 seasons of the IMSA Firehawk series.

After the end of the 1993 …

Yeah this would look really good in his shop next to his other MR2.

Raced a Showroom Stock Miata back in the late 90s and it was the most fun I've had in the entire 37 years I've been racing.

This car would be loads of fun; no need to modify it because you are keeping it period correct.

Exactly. Fresh fluids, tires, belts, etc., (assuming needed) and go run some HSR events. Love seeing these old IMSA cars. This one popped up in my FB Marketplace. Guess they’re still out there.

This would sit nicely next to the Celica race car... no, stop thinking about it.

I see these type of listings and wonder how much it would be to make it "street legal" in the sense that I could get it to events without a tow.  Unless it's already titled and technically legal.  NO STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.

Good question. If it has a VIN and a title, you’re there, right?

I mean, even if you don't race it (which you totally should), I think it's a really cool piece of history to have.

I also wonder if this is the sort of car we could be seeing soon on the concours show field...

I saw it pop up on my FB marketplace feed too. I was wondering if you guys would have seen it.

Thats a Dodge Stealth in the photo with the MR2.  That's awesome and hilarious.   I did not realize any of those were actually raced in their day.  I owned one for a few years and did a DE at Sebring with it.   It was pretty terrible.

I used my SSC Miata as a daily driver as well as racing it. LVMS is only 9 miles from my house so I'd throw the basic stuff I needed in the trunk, drive to the track and drive home.

Did I look goofy driving through town in a bone stock car wearing a drivers suit; sure but it was so much fun I didn't care.

Is that an Intrepid or a low spec Dodge Stealth?

I wouldn't be interested in driving a car on the street with a cage. Roll bar padding is designed for helmets, not your bare noggin.

After getting injured in a motorcycle wreck at the track years ago, I take safety very seriously (and that's not too imply that anyone else isn't taking it seriously). Still have a bit of a limp and a post-concussion syndrome was horrible.

Being black and white, I can't tell for sure, but I believe that's a Flis Brothers Stealth, out of their shop in Daytona.

When I worked for Joe Varde in '88, Pontiac gave us a 1989 GTA Trans-Am test mule that had been stolen from their lot and recovered.  It had a 350 with an automatic, and we made it a 305 with a 5 speed.  We made a VIN for the dash with a label maker and some grey spray paint, so that the carpet matched the drapes, so to speak.

Paul Rossi ran those colors for Dodge in Firehawk, but I don't remember them having a Stealth.

Maybe Kal Showket had one?

The 'No Fear' sticker would definitely indicate Boris Said, as the Simo brothers sponsored him quite a bit.

Haha, brings back a funny memory. Early 90's, there was a crazy dude that had a SSB Peugot. Headed up I-85 on the way to Road Atlanta, there he was on the side of the road speaking with the local sheriff wearing his driving suit. Probably didn't get out of that speeding ticket.

With that number 32 on the side, could very well be Archer Brothers.

Garth Ullom was another Dodge guy in Firehawk.  At West Palm Beach in '88, he had two Daytona Turbo Z's, and a GLHS.  Joe co-drove the GLHS, and had it in the lead with 30 minutes to go.  But the Dodge brass wanted the Daytona that was in 2nd to win.  The GLHS needed a short stop for fuel with about 15 minutes to go, and they made Joe get out of the car and put somebody else in the car that 'somehow' lost the lead with two laps to go, giving the win to the Daytona.
