I got hit head on by a 458 about fourish years ago by a douche "borrowing" daddies car. Still have the scars.

Way more money then skill and part of the reason I think we need graduated licensing in the states for bikes and cars. Especially with the electrics out now that are heavy and super fast.

The same way we need testing for AARP members. But it's unlikely to happen based on voting demographics.

In my area that guy went to jail for fraud.

"According to court documents, from approximately August 2020 through July 2021, Justin Lee Godsey, 26, ran "Sneak Foot," an online retailer that primarily sold athletic shoes through a website. When customers purchased shoes from Sneak Foot, the sales were managed by two credit card processing companies who had entered into agreements with Sneak Foot. The processors were obligated to refund the money sent to Sneak Foot through them if Godsey failed to deliver shoes ordered. Godsey consistently pocketed funds paid to him by customers without sending them the shoes, and used the funds for various personal expenditures, including the purchase of a Lamborghini. The losses incurred by the two credit card processors exceed $870,000"

A few of the other's he hung with made a bunch of money in bitcoin and still race around.

I used to drive the Six Gaps in north GA a few times a year and I've been to Tail of the Dragon.  I've seen so many fast cars in the trees and heard about so many injuries/fatalities that it just seems stupid to me now.  Racing on an actual track with other skilled drivers is far safer.  From what I've seen, bad decisions and accidents ran across all age groups and demographics.  I feel sorry for the police in those areas that have to deal with that E36M3show.

Track days are unfortunately not as easily accessible in some areas. Think about it this way, an 18 year old kid has his own car and sees that a track 2 hours away has a track day on a Saturday morning for $200, but a very nice twisty road that is empty at night is a quick 15 minute drive away. That kid will end up going on the twisty road 9 times out of 10. Track days are definitely a better and legal way to race, but sadly they are not always available for everyone. I'm not defending people doing touge, it just makes sense to me as to why someone would go on a mountain or canyon road instead of a track.

When I was 18 I would have worked 3 jobs if I could get on track and "only" had to drove 2 hours away.

Don't get me wrong I did plenty of late night stupid stuff on my motorcyle at that age but again if I had something close by I would have lept at it.

Once you get on track, driving fast down twisty roads becomes passe.

When I was young I did stupid stuff on motorcycles too. But the stupid stuff was done on a Yamaha 125 Enduro, not a 200 mph crotch rocket. That's probably why I'm still alive.

As a side note, this thread is a great example of why insurance is so expensive.

This was a pretty horrific crash that recently happened, with a 26 year old female driver:

Unfortunately her passenger died as a result.

I met a young guy a few years back.  He was a Chinese national who was here going to college, and had a new Gallardo.  School and car were paid for by his wealthy parents.  He wasn't an enthusiast, and didn't seem to know anything about the car other than what it cost.  As far as I could tell he wasn't doing anything particular at school other than partying, and the car was already a little trashed from being used as a daily driver and being parked on campus.  I wondered if his parents knew what he was up to, living large 6,000 miles away from their supervision.
