So it looks like the TR7 is going to fall thru because of title issues. But the guy has a Yugo he will sell me super cheap. I was wondering where can you find performance parts for these? I know they are basically Fiat 128s. Anything tips/ tricks/ etc will be helpful.

Hey, that's me.

Front suspension, X1/9 struts and springs

Rear, convert to custom coil over or ask me about the $9 Yugo lowering kit for the rear.

Box flares, just because http://misfittoysracing.com/Yugo/flaretutorial/index.htm

engine, its just a 1100 or 1300 cc Fiat 128 engine, all the 128 or x1/9 hop up bits work.

Or make the italian ShoGun and put an Alfa 164 V6 drivetrain in the rear.

Drop the car off at my house and I'll do all of that and more :)

But I want to build it. That is half the fun.

Please tell me about the $9 Yugo lowering kit. This car must stay under Challenge budget and I want to have it ready be the start of autocross season.

You are in AL. I am in GA.

The car former referenced with a lot of work done by JThw8 (known as The Yugo from Hell) belongs to me.

It is reasonably close to you, and I'll sell for Challenge friendly price.

Just a thought...

...though I understand if you want build it.

I think I still have a $9 kit here, if I do I'll send it to you free.

The rear suspension is just a transverse leaf so it is really just a matter of properly spacing out the outer mounts with longer bolts to lower the car. I have pictures somewhere, I'll try to dig them up.

Is that spacer a spark plug socket?

No, I used allthread as the new "bolt" and used an allthread union for added support. Technically you can just get away with a longer bolt but I like the extra heft and protection that surrounding it in the allthread union gave it.

I miss my yugo... so simple... so easy to work on... change your timing belt regularly and it'll run a long time... easy to get parts for still http://www.yugoparts.com/ (just have to wait for the mail)

1.1L head on a fiat x1/9 1.5L bottom end gives you something like 11:1 c/r...

if you want EFI you can choose from yugos or the later x1/9...

so you can easily make a high c/r screamer or a low/moderate c/r... in your choice of 1.1L, 1.3L or 1.5L... also can bolt on a turbo with "factory" parts if you can source a fiat uno turbo manifold from europe

or you could always go SHOGUN style and toss some FWD bits in the back :)

if I found another one cheap and running i'd prob get in trouble with the wife... but I fit my 6'4 300# self in very nicely for around town driving... and the kids got a kick out of it because of how small it was...

It depends. Most of the stuff I see at the hardware or parts store is low strength rough/coarse in appearance thread grade 2 crap. It maybe grade 5, but I wouldn't trust it for any kind of decent structural repairs or mods. Mcmaster-Carr lists a grade 8 allthread for not much money....

I have a complete Exxie 1.5L sitting on my garage floor, with the EFI intake, etc. Yours for free if you're willing to pay for the shipping from PDX.

I guess that will be crate shipping. Any idea of weight and where I can get a quote for that?

I can't tell you the exact weight, but I can tell you I can lift it.

It's a struggle, but I can.

Maybe 200 lbs??

I've also got one in my shop. Not free, but Challenge friendly. Might rival the shipping costs.

No wait... I've got 2

Will a 1300 head on a 1500 block increase the compression ratio? I was told it would be someone. Does any know for sure? And what compression ratio will that create?

I want to say all the yugo heads had the 11:1 (or was it 10:1?) c/r... you'd need to double check that... I do know the c/r change is in the head design/differences and not the pistons though...

so for NA a 1.5L bottom end and yugo top end... for turbo your choice of bottom end displacment (1.1, 1.3 or 1.5L) and the exxie EFI top end (add megasquirt) is how I would roll...

if I find a cheap fairly clean yugo around here i'd have a hard time not picking it up... very practical little car :)

I talked to the guy. He said he would sell me two Yugos (an 87 and 86) and some spares including Alfa wheels for $600. They both have 1.1s. I may be able to get a Fiat 1.3 for free. Will that head on a 1.5 increase the compression ratio?

as I recall yes... but my advice may be worth what you are paying

info shouldn't be hard to find with googlez (search yugo :grassrootsmotorsports.com) for starters... glean some info off pretty much every yugo thread there has been... but I imagine if you had both heads side by side it would be pretty obvious
