A 2000 BMW Z3 2.3 popped up on CL that's going to auction on Thursday. Really have never checked out a Z3 before but they have always interested me. Anything in particular to look for on these cars? Aside from the common BMW cooling system stuff? Based on the e36 for suspension if I remember correctly... How are they to drive? Anyone have experience with owning one?

If it's cheap enough, you want one, and are willing to swap an I6? Then yes.

Some recent chatter about Z3's.

Front suspension is e36, rear is similar to e30.

Thanks JohnRW1621. Checked the car out tonight and looks to be a bit of a project. Front bumper/air damn was messed up, convertible rear window was out and it was raining at the time so who knows how much rain got in there.

Oh well, body looked good and it was a manual with the i6.

It would have a 2.5 M52 with a simple tune it would have more power than the earlier M50.

I would totally pick one of these up if I found a screaming deal. Very fun, under rated cars.

I would say that a good condition Z3 is worth looking at.

In reply to z31maniac: I have been told that the straight-6 engines require more maintenance than the 4 cylinders, which is odd to me, because it's mostly the electronics that are draining my money.
