Woody's. Hadn't been in a while and the whole import section is pretty much cleared out.
Today's JY run brought a mix of emotions. I went today because yesterday they placed a 1995 Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear Chamonix in the yard and I had to check it out.
I heart literal translations. and it was fun to see a wacky vehicle like this up close and personal. I thought of grabbing headlights, taillights, fogs, and the groovy velour seats, and had a special request for "Space Gear" emblems, but the "emblem" was just stick-on letters, so that was a no-go. In the end, I didn't take anything but these pix:
there was an early C4 with Russell braided brake hoses, so I grabbed those. I was gonna snatch the front calipers but they're single-piston. Today I Learned. I also grabbed the front bar and brackets, and the brake pedal pad.
Then the sad part of the day: look at this 2002 Camaro, V6 Manual:
It's the cleanest 4th-gen I've seen since I worked at GM when they were new. It was definitely somebody's pride and joy.
see that wheel and tire? It is OE to the car. Mold date 1802. 18th week of 2002. I'm guessing the lack of grip of 22YO tires contributed to the smashed front end. My buddy and I popped the diff cover and c-clips and pulled the axles, to get the rear disc setup for his low-$ pro touring 69 Nova.
Cashier LOL'd at all the odds and ends, said they'd normally get stolen or crushed, and only charged me for the bar.
overall a great way to spend a 40-degree day in January in Detroit.
I literally was there the same time as you today. Heck, I might have been standing right next to you. I looked at the Mitsu and the Camaro also. It's a great salvage yard.

LOL small world! Did you see someone in tan Carhartts robbing parts from the C4 as you passed by? That really is a good yard.
No I didn't but I did pretty much check out each row. The C4 has been heavily picked, looked at that too. Sometimes the vehicles are so good I wonder why they are even there. Do you ever go on Black Friday? $60 for what ever you can carry for 60 feet. A bit of a madhouse but interesting.

Crazy to see another in a yard! I was wandering one of our yards that has an extremely (and disappointing this trip) car turnover rate and ended up walking through the Mitsubishi section to also find that same generation Delica, it was a space gear as well with the turbo diesel. I called my in-laws on the spot as they have one in the Yukon but it doesn't need anything at the moment. It was very picked over though as I'm sure it had been there for quite a while (couldn't find it listed in the inventory). They're pretty cool vehicles, there's is setup to sleep in with the rear seats removed so they camp all over the north in it, we were lucky enough to take it into Alaska.
I need to visit that Sterling Heights yard. I usually do the Fox U-Pull yard in Belleville, or one of the Parts Galore (Flat Rock may be closed) yards. I just enjoy looking around, whether I buy anything or not, but I'll wait for warmer weather.
Went to U-Pull-It last weekend and saw this purple hopper that is pretty beat down.
And this Cutlass about to go to the crusher.
Fun trip to the u pull today, task to find a smallish muffler in decent shape to install on my vanagon that has a subaru 2.5l installed. Ended up in the aisle with the latest arrivals and scored a walker exhaust off this camry that still has the store labels on it
This one still had its turbo and heavy duty axles, wouldn't those parts be worth something considerably more than stock upull prices?
Surprise 59 Cadillac!
And a 69 LeSabre.
And a 1g Neon with absolutely mint seats. Someone needs to go save these.
Went today to two
There's an RX8 with mazdaspeed suspension and who knows what else
I dont know if that's anything someone would be interested in
But was pretty nice example
Swung out on the stuff I was hunting today, but it was a beautiful day to browse around a bit
To add - one of th yards had an Opel GT, pretty car!...well, not this example, but overall it's a good body design
Lil Stampie and I hit the yard today. He was looking for the fan wiring harness for his Civic and I needed two headlight pins for my Suburban because the DA that replaced the bulb a few weeks ago forgot to put them back in. First we started looking for his harness. Ran across some of the yard workers as I went to take a picture of this Accord Wagon.
It's a manual even.
Since I already took a picture of the dude he said he wanted us to put him on FB. I really don't do FB so here he is on GRM.
Next we saw a E36Ti that was there last time we went.
Lil Stampie noticed this 240. Base model with auto. A tree had fallen on the trunk.
As he started pulling a harness I wondered off looking for older cars. Pretty sad that this 84 Towncar was all I could find.
I found Lil Stampie just as he finished pulling his harness and we started wondering back to the front. All of sudden I noticed this other e36Ti.
It's also a manual.
We got up front and I pointed out to Lil Stampie which cashier was the nicest on pricing. He didn't get a break on his harness but I got my headlight pins free.
Mixed bag today. It was Indy-kid #3's first time in the yard, so that was Great 👍.
We struck out on every Ford Flex part we were looking for, so we went after some Prius parts for profit.
I've been pulling these steering column assemblies and selling them on eBay for about $100 profit after shipping and fees.
I've bought 3 of them over the last year and they usually charge about $40-50 plus ten dollar core. not today. Wanted $140. NOPE! That literally leaves me zero profit, so we walked back onto the yard, I pulled the steering wheel off, and left the column behind.
I need to find a new profit item to pull. Any suggestions?

How hard are these to get out of a Prius and what sockets / wrenches do you need ?
any hidden bolts ? And how do you get the steering wheel off ?
Not sure what the yards out here in California will charge !
Thanks for the info
In reply to californiamilleghia :
#10, & #12 mm plus Phillips head and torx bit (I think #25? to remove air bag). Steering wheel is #19mm. After nut is off, wheel just pulls off, no puller tool required. Make sure to also grab the controller (module)
Edit: I've sold 4 of them at $225 for everything you see in the picture
are all the prius's steering set-ups the same like above ? or at least the Prius you would find in a junkyard ?

100% of the 2004 to 2009 have that setup. Gen 2. Looks like this body style:
Angrycorvair tipped me off to a 260z at the local junkyard and I was able to make it out today. Key needs were hatch and maybe drivers door, as my latch is bad.
got those 2 pulled along with a few other things before I ran out of time. Hoping to maybe get back tomorrow for the front valence corners/turn signals.
I met ClassicJackets at the JY this AM, because that's what retired me does on whatever day of the week this is. Man I can't believe how straight and saveable this car was. I mean, the floors were rotten of course, but the rest of the car was solid. (EDIT: The A-pillars we're also rusted to E36 M3 thanks to the vinyl top.) We grabbed both front fenders, headlight buckets, grille, cowl, and front valence corners with lights. Another guy was already there snagging the pass door, steering wheel, taillights, and rear bumper, and Mr Jackets gave him the front bumper which he removed to get to the grille. While we were there, another guy showed up hoping to get some of the parts that we had already snagged. Bummer for him. The engine had an Allison electronic ignition and Weber 32/36 DGAVs with their CARB EO tags still attached. Mr Jackets needed to hit the road so I didn't bother snagging those, although I did think about getting them to put on eBlow. It was a fun way to spend a cold morning.

Man, it's been a long time since I went to the Pick 'n' Scratch. Long time since I played with DGVs, too. I'd be awfully tempted to go back and grab them, especially since it's a complete, application-specific setup. It would be a fun little tidy-up job for a gentleman of leisure such as yourself.
