Traded the SV650 for a 2014 KTM 500exc with a clean title than runs. Couldn't pass up on that deal. Will make a more detailed post but this poor thing is rough.

1st order of business was the estart not working. Charged the battery (it was a little low) and try it. Slow crank. Checked for power where I need it and was good, and checked grounds. Found a ground wire zip tied to the subframe so I tapped a new hole since it was stripped and it fired up. But basically only get one start per battery charge. When running it charges fine, battery float charged fine, but soon as you put load on it, it dies. New battery and some replacement and service parts are on the way.
Those usually have tiny batteries and high compression, I usually don't get many cranks even out of a good battery. I usually hit the decomp and kick it a couple times to prime the mixture. Very cool though!

Very small battery. Decomp is automatic on this, gonna check it when I check valves. But it fires first kick. Gonna put a lithium in like I do all my supermotos and enjoy the extra cca
Got the lithium battery in, I always love the weight savings and extra CCA. Bonus put a fresh air filter in since the old one was super nasty.
Changed the sticky and spinny grips for some freshies.
Also found a Dyno jet tuner when poking around. Time to hook up the laptop and see what's happening.

One of the better trades I have ever made. It's not the nicest but we will get there. First test ride on it was fun, thing is a ripper.
New to me seat, going to try to repair the old one also.
Changed the oil, flushed coolant, changed brake fluid and put new screws in since they where all mismatched.
95% sure it needs valve stem seals since it smokes a little if you idle for a while and then rev it. Under load is fine.
Ordered a new take off kickstand from eBay and this is what I got. Ordered a new one .
New kickstand and stopper bolts are on, gonna be doing some digging into some smoking it's doing.
Idle for a few min warm, hit the throttle and it puffs out some smoke. Pretty sure it needs valve stem seals.
New skid plate installed
Put a few hundred miles on it so far. Smoking is not as bad, runs pretty good. I'm super pleased so far.
Stripped the bike down to do fuel filter in tank, check valves and some wiring.
Fuel filter was nasty.
Changed the plug also. Very very nasty also.
Ran out of parts to finish fuel filter and installed a set of renthol RC highs and moved the bars forward.
I end up replacing those plastic fuel filters with metal ones, they like to split on the 690/701's...
Fuel pump back together with new strainer and pump. Bikes mostly back together and runs.
Pic of filter part number
Got tail light and turn signal situation better, need to finish my plate mount. Just temporarily down there.

Which SV? This might have been a fair trade, or a killer deal! These 2014 bikes are pretty great, and yours has fancy bits everywhere.

1st gen sv650, was using it as a track bike/commuter. Didn't have diddly squat in it.
