On the hottest day of the year so far. Lots of water stops. Good news is that I am now less than 1.5 hours from GRM HQ. The ride was fairly uneventful, I saw 4 police cars the whole way. I-95 moved with some serious speed. Worst tank was 42.x, best was 48.x. I think that I kept it under 80 for the best tank, I will refrain from discussing the other tank speeds. This is on a stock '06 WeeStrom. Now it's time to go and adjust my chain and go visit a local university.
I'd love to do a long trip like that.
I'm planning to do an Iron Butt in two weeks.
I left Fayetteville, AR in the morning and spend the night on I90 at the Missouri River, ~850 miles. I was a bit tired. That last rain storm pushed me over a lane with a wind shear. When I got through that one, I called it a day.
My long trip was Bryan, Texas to Bryan, Texas via Carlsbad Caverns, Grand Canyon, 4 corners, Coors Brewery, Sturgis, Yeller Stone, Lethbridge (bought Dr.Linda's bike at that point and continued on 2 bikes) and Red Deer (Alberta, Eh?), Glacier Park, Seattle, Coos Bay, Redwoods, Sacramento, L.A., and Pheonix. 6 weeks on the bike(s). 8400 miles on mine. 6100 on Dr.Linda's before we got it home. Put a new tire on when I left and a new one on when I got home.
I'm planning to take most of August off and go a-wandering on the WR. Basic plan is to head down the Blue Ridge Parkway through most of VA, then cut across to Jellico, TN and follow the TAT to Colorado before turning around for Maryland. I haven't quite figured the return trip yet, but I'm leaning towards either doing more of the National Road (US 40) or coming back on US 50 since either will eventually dump me back basically at my doorstep.

If you want to stay a night in c'ville, let me know
I must say, they are even crazier on I75 than on I95. I will get home tomorrow, having logged over 2000 miles in5 days. Only issues have been the need for a new chain (the ordered chain and sprockets didn't arrive at the house until yesterday, but at over 25000, I can't complain too loudly) and the clutch switch came lose today. That was a quick fix.
My butt is pewter, or perhaps brass. My longest trip to date is Pittsburgh to Charlottesville, VA via Skyline Drive. 350 miles in a day, with a billion stops for photos. This was on a 28-year old bike with worn out seat foam however.

Mistanfo, I might take you up on that, though I was hoping to make it further south on the first day, more like the Roanoke area. Glad you made it home ok, wish my chain/sprockets would make it that long... damn dirt ridin'.
My riding tendancies confuse people. Fellow Stromtroopers swear that I must do stoppies everywhere, until they see the mileage that I get from front tires, then they theorize that I just levitate everywhere.
The canoes are everywhere, and blatent plagerizers.
Man. The second time you did that trip looks MUCH more exciting than the first, Hess.

Looks like he needed a vulcanized rubber both before and after the trip.
