Found via advrider - it looks like it's a service that is supposed to give better recommendations for motorcycle helmets after one took some more thorough measurements of one's melon. Apparently once you send the measurements back which also take your head shape somewhat into consideration, they compare the measurements to their database of helmet measurements and come back to you with helmets that are supposed to be a good fit.

I'm tempted to give it a try as it's been a bit of an issue for me to find helmets that fit really well and work on long tours without annoying pressure points. IIRC it's not that expensive (plus it might make for an interesting 'Tube video).

Anybody tried it before?

Nope.  I know I've got an Arai/Klim helmet head and that's ok by me

It's great if you have that sort of known fitment and makes things a lot easier. Unfortunately in my case, the almost perfect fit helmet is a discontinued model by Schuberth that has no successor model, and they did change the internal helmet shape on their later models on top of that.

I'll probably give this service a shot and will report back if it helped me find some alternative helmets that I hadn't considered or if it's back to the HJC model was a reasonable substitute for my last Schuberth, but not a 100% long distance riding fit.

Schuberth is a round head fitment.  Just look around online and find what other helmets are the same.  Do you have a store nearby with a bunch of helmets you can try?

The local ones don't have a lot of selection, but I just found one in reasonable distance that allegedly has a broader selection and hopefully not of cheap lids only. They shouldn't given that I found them via the Arai website.

Schuberth seems to be changing the fitment of their helmets more and more - the one that worked really well for me (the S1) is classified as "long oval" by WebBikeWorld's fitment guide, but the newer they get the rounder they are classified as, which also matches my experience. If the classification holds, the Arai Signet-X might also work, which would be nice. I like their helmets but IME they always ended up createing pressure points on my forehead in the past.

I'd really like to find a modular helmet that fits well, with me being a four eyes and all that.

Schuberth's always gave me pressure points on my forehead and back of my skull.  Too round for me.

Shoei and Bell make the most comfortable helmets for my huge round head. I can't stand Arai. Completely wrong shape. I need to buy a new helmet as my Shoei RF1200 has exceeded the Snell rating for participating in sanctioned events.

EDIT: I did have to buy thinner cheek pads for a better fit.

Well, visiting that particular store was an interesting experience. The salesperson took a lot of time working with me to get the fit right and we're currently "almost" there. Almost is pretty good given my usual track record, so a major thumbs up to them.

The two helmets that fitted well enough were a Shoei Neotec II and an Arai Regent-X. They're trying to get a Neotec in one size larger (my head is a 58cm-and-a-bit, and the M Neotec is a 57-58) and the next size up for the liner of the Regent-X to see if that improves fitment, so hopefully I'll actually have a helmet that fits properly next weekend.

Getting to this conclusion took quite a while and I think about ten different helmets, whereas my wife only had to try out two sizes of the Neotec to find the right fit...

Bell didn't fit at all (expected) and the non-Neotec Shoeis also weren't great. Scorpion was another "almost", but the aforementioned Arai and Shoeis were almoster.

They're also a well stock Klim dealer so I got to try out the A-1 airbag vest. The combo of size and model I need wasn't in stock either, but they'll also try to get one in for next weekend. That's going to be an expensive shopping weekend but I don't generally fall off bikes that often so my gear tends to last a long time.

Since no one is getting any younger I think gear like the airbag vest is worth every penny in terms of preventing injuries or vastly improving recovery time in case of an off.

Totally -  it's not clear how much the vest would've helped in my accident, but I'm pretty sure my ribs would've been a lot less unhappy than they still are. For me it's really a question of which airbag vest, not if I want one or not.
