Even if is just at an MSF course? Which is what I'm looking at ironically. A Kentucky MSF is getting ride of a few 2011 and 1
2012 TU250Xs. Low miles, but obviously hard miles. they look like they are going to go for about 20-25% of new, which is $1,000-$1,300.
Small enough for fun around town and to teach SWMBO how to ride.
Worth it or run away?
Govdeals Suzuki TU250X
I say that would be ideal to teach a beginner on. A grand for a single with a front disc brake? Should be anvil tough. Not too hard on the eyes, either.
I love the look and the idea of a TU250. Fuel injection and air-cooled, just dead simple.
The 16hp part gives me pause though. My CRF250L has 8hp more and I wouldn't want much less if I ever left city streets.
24 hp is optimistic for a CRF250l
They’re probably a few hp apart at most.
I’d buy one. For that price it’ll come in handy if you never use it
SWMBO is terrified of clutches. Refuses to try again after getting spooked at an MSF course a few years ago. This idea is shot down. Damn.
Have you looked at a Ridley? There was also a small Honda automatic, don't recall if it was a 500 or 750.
Wonder how she would take to a Bergman or Helux. Huh, more automatics in the world than I thought.
200cc auto for $2200?
In reply to 914Driver :
Ironically, every 400 Hawk or 750 Honda I saw when I was looking 10 years ago was an automatic. Now, I can't find a Hawk automatic to save my life or the guy wants full crack pipe.
Super Scooters look like the o ly option at this point.

The TU250 looks the business, if I were 100lb lighter, there would be one in my garage.
We sold the wife unit's VLX600 earlier this year and got her into a Vespa GTS300 and she LOVES it.
Heck, I love it. It'll do 70mph no problem and has more than enough jam for city traffic.
Vespa
One thing they don't tell you is that Vespas are monocoque construction. They're very stiff and handle great. We had a 50cc China scooter for a while and the difference is night and day.

You can't go wrong at that price. They had those for our local MSF class. The only gears that ever got used were first and second.
Resale value on them is very high for what they are. They really are that good, provided running faster than 60 for extended periods isn't on your agenda (they will go 70, I've heard).
You might also consider the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 which has just come out if this doesn't work for you. Reviews so far have been very good.
I have always kept them on the radar for rolling side roads into work but never pulled the trigger. Also never owned a bike beyond a Honda metropolitan scooter.
Rode one for my MSF class and liked it a lot. Perfect beginner bike, low seat, light weight, fun to toss around. Reminded me a lot of the 72(?) Honda CL175 I learned on. At that price I'd jump on one just to keep around as a buddy bike.

She could learn on one of these and then upgrade if she gets comfortable enough. If not, these are always handy to just have around anyway. The ultimate "I'm afraid of clutches and motorcycles but this is fun" bike.

My dad had a CT90. Top speed downhill was about 45 mph. But it was super easy to ride and would go anywhere. Plus, you buy a used one and it probably won't depreciate.
What came of this? Auction ended and the bike sold for just a over a grand. Did you buy it?!
SWMBO showed no interest in learning how to run a clutch and said she'd rather see me get a bigger bike, as I already have a 200cc motorbike. I reluctantly agreed.

Shoulda bought and flipped at that price.
Don't know why I didn't think about it before... Check out the Aprilia Mana. I can't seem to get that one out of my head. I love the look. 850cc v twin. Wait for it... CVT. Giant helmet swallowing frunk plenty of go. Looks like a bike. Sounds like a bike, has a manual over ride option, but default is twist and go.
