That is why I have close to 20 of them in my garage

Just picked this little SR500 up from a Hipster on the North Side. Needs wiring sorted , a new ignition switch, a carb rebuild, and some general cleanup. Barely even a project at all, hopefully.

Thankfully, I picked up this SR500 (The one with a whole lot of hole where an engine should be) just in case I need some smaller parts, and for the spare stock seat that came with it.

Great bikes, a fellow I ride with has one in his stable.

There was a running one on Chicago's Craigslist for $750. First SR I'd seen for sale locally. Killed me not to have the cash. Thumpers that are kick only rule.

This is that very one.

I have a TT500, XT500, FT500 (electric start, but my first street bike), and this, the MacDaddy of Kick or Be Kicked Thumpers, my '95 KTM 620RXC. Forget all the stories about difficult thumpers if you've never tried starting a 600+CC left side kicker with an insane seat height (I'm 6'2", and I can't flat foot it at stoplights).

Damn......I'd need a ladder to ride that bike!

Oh, I'm sure you ride it just fine. Stopping and starting would be interesting, though.

I loved the SR500 when they came out. A few years later I dropped into a bike shop while on the road for a job and they had two. One was used and $1200. The other was new but untitled and $1800. No idea why I didn't buy it.

My brother and his buddies used to do them up Cafe style with drop bars. They were cool. Minor issue is that my 6' 3" self looked like the Grape Ape sitting on them.

One of my favorite bikes in tourist trophy (edit, it was an sr400). For the uninitiated, tt is literally grantorismo only with bikes, no really it's polyphony digital and the same tracks and physics engine (iirc as gt4).

It occurs to me that I should start a tt thread in here!
