After threatening I was going to sell off my flock of SuMos to get a new KTM 690SMC, I found a 2008 with 257 miles, 70 miles from my door for $3k less than new.
We made a deal on the phone, I'm PayPalling a deposit in a little while.
I'm going to bring the Derbi 50 Super Motard Extreme and the DRZ400 SM to the WERA endurance race at Summit Point this weekend and park them centrally in the paddock with "for sale" signs. The KTM 950 SM I'll put on advrider.com.
What's the coolest is that I texted my wife while I was on the phone w/ the guy and she said "so, this one will do everything the other 3 do?" "yes" "Is it really cool?" "yes" "Then I say do it!"
When I said I'd done it she said "w00t!" amd "yay!"
When I worked in motorcycle sales I heard nearly daily from guys who's "wife would kill them" and how "forgiveness is easier to get than permission". That makes me a little sad to think of what is being missed out on, both from a standpoint of a life of motorcycle goodness as well as mutual respect, support and trust.
thats a killer deal on that bike. was it dropped or something?

Amen. My wife is pretty awesome with regard to my automotive retardedness.
Not dropped or nuthin'. It's like perfect in the pictures. Guy in his 40s has a CBR900RR and a Harley plus a Honda MX bike and little KTM 65s for his kids. He has a 70 mile each-way commute from north of baltimore to DC and no time to ride it. You'd think they'd fly out the door, but the rest of the world looks at a 650 single for $10,498 and says "Huh?".
His minimum bid on eBay was $7k, and his Craigslist ad was at $7.5 which was a perfectly fair no-quibble price.
He emailed a scan of the title and his drivers license and I Paypalled a deposit. I'll get a cashiers check tomorrow or Friday and pick it up Sunday afternoon after the SCCA autocross at FedEx.
I'm well stoked I tell you what. when I was tossed the keys to one last month I knew within 2 minutes I'd buy one.
Good lucking keeping the front wheel on the ground and your driver's license in your pocket.
lol
I just moved the RD400F Daytona Special into my basement shop to make space and we're leaving to pick up the SMC!
Mailed you about the Derbi.
Replied about the Derbi. BTW, you need it.
The 690 is just staggeringly cool. I insured it this morning and ordered a Wings slip-on and DNA filter and cover. The local KTM dealer will download the "Akrapovic" ECU map for about $100.
The stock cat converter / muffler weighs a ton and runs at about a 1000 degrees, and the bike is calibrated so lean it's painful to ride. Also, there's a "cut the green wire to allow the other 20% in first through 3rd gear" trick that needs done.
The build quality is typical KTM - WP suspension, Brembo radial brakes, attractive little machined aluminum washers under everything. It even comes with usable tires, Pirelli Dragon Corsa Evos.
I'm stoked. I just need to sell some bikes now.
what has you moving away from sport bikes and ADV bikes to the Motard?
I'm still fixed on target of getting one, just can't find one for a decent price. Honestly, I like your Derbi, but for your price I could find an older bike with more power. Unless you can talk me into it.
