Great buy! I don't know much about them and I have a question: Would you have preferred an 1100? or is a 920 a better bike to seek out?
really don't care either way. i don't need an 1100 and i was actually looking originally for a 750. but i have heard decent things about the 920.
i do not know much at all actually about them other than i have fond memories of riding my dad's 83 750 with him when i was little and i've always liked the look and sound of the yamaha v twin. the bike currently sounds like crap because the mufflers are rusted out inside and blowing chunks.
I was on the Kijijis and some of those 920s had digital gauges.
Crazy...
Yeah, neat but ugly digital gauges. I'll take some more pics as i progress.
Think the petcock is in need of rebuild as it does nothing, just floods the carbs. It's supposed to be vacuum referenced but it's flow no matter what i switch it to.
I do believe that since i need a throttle cable anyway, i'm going to go ahead and build a single carb intake. I've read of great results with a harley 883 carb and my buddy just happened to put some kind of screaming eagle or other such named carb on his sportster and thinks he has his original for me. It will allow lots of crap to disappear, some stuff to move, and i can run a proper rear fender.
look ma, no carbs!
once i pulled the intake boots off and looked inside the carbs, i decided for sure to build a single carb intake and run the harley carb. this also allowed me to gut the factory airbox and i will mount all the relays that are mounted to the rear fender under the seat where the air filter used to be. then i will be free to modify the rear subframe for whichever fender and seat i wish. will probably cut up the factory seat and recover it.
ordered petcock rebuild kit and a clymer manual. the starter is having some issues(surprise) so i was reading up on the virago tech site and it sounds much less worse than people make it sound.

I wonder if the sensors for that gauge panel will work with a Trail Tech Vapor.
VAPOR
that's pretty cool.
the bike is alive running on gasoline and not starting fluid.
now i get to educate myself on tuning a mikuni tm40 off a harley.
