500CC and 43hp....

Nothing says performance like putting out Japanese bike horsepower from 30 years ago.

It better have a buttload of torque.

I think it looks good for being a Harley. I'm not crazy about their pudgy couch cruisers. I wonder how people will react to this.

SO are they selling these in the states or just oversea's. That looks like a brand building bike for the Asia market not really something they will sell in the states.

They will sell in US (made in KC) and also internationally (not made in KC). The 500cc bike will MSRP at $6799+frt and the 750 will MSRP at $7499_frt; both will have 24 month unlimited mile warranties.

They are being marketed to "young, urban adults...".

Cheaper then a sportster but not by much.

I am not a Harley guy, but I really like the look of that bike. Did you guys see the prices?

$6,700 for the 500 and $7,500 for the 750. I looked for comparisons to that. That is less than a Triumph Bonneville or Honda Shadow. That is solidly in the neighborhood of the Honda CX700. I think that is who they are really firing a shot at.

For that you get a Harley with really nice looks and their impressive warranty. Unlike other Harleys, this one clearly has a much more standard seating position. It very clearly was made to be a functional city bike to compete more against the likes of the Honda CX700. Unlike that, this bike clearly has a sense of style and soul. It isn't going to set the world alight with performance, but it aught to get you around town more than capably.

Unlike other Harleys, this clearly created to be a functional bike that fills a very specific role, and not just be a style mobile. The fact that it looks to be quite functional with its own form of pizzazz is really impressive. If this bike genuinely has good ergos, I will be hugely impressed.

If I had the cash outlay to buy her a brand new bike, that 500 would be the perfect thing for the Beer Baroness.

Isn't that motor the water-cooled Evo series co-designed by Porsche? I would think you could coax a little more power out of it...

Different motor I think.

They also have a water-cooled bagger option out this year.

The motor, from what I understand, is a 60* twin that is loosely based on the VRod architecture. It is liquid cooled, 4V and SOHC. They will have 6 speeds too (where the VRod is a 5 speed).

At the very least the 500cc version will give them a bike to use in their "Rider's Edge" program now that the Buell Blast isn't being made.

I would like to see the a comparison test between the 750 and the 883 Sportster. Wonder if the water cooled, OHC, multi-valve engine trumps the slightly larger air-cooled 883.

I kind of like them, my only appearance complaint is I'm not a huge fan of the headlight surround. $2000 is a pretty big difference between the 500 and an 883 Sportster, and with the 80 lbs less weight and about the same horsepower, the Street 500 is probably faster.

I'm not sure I'd buy one, but I might. As long as they prove as reliable as other modern Harleys, I suspect they'll sell as many as they can make.

I kind of like it. If you don't, looks like it would be pretty easy to remove and have look good.

I think its great that the motor company is trying to think out side the box here, I personally love small CC bikes. And I can hear the hardcore HD guys now with they're "girls bike" bullE36 M3. I'll go get a test ride on one as soon as they hit the dealership

Did what? Make bikes to serve a purpose other than impressing the other guys at the bar?

Also, not familiar with what "AMF" is in this context.

I am not a Harley guy, but there seems to be a lot of hate for them on this board. Normally folks around here are shouting to the hills that we need more lower displacement, real, interesting bikes that are being sold for less. If any other bike manufacturer were to do this exact same thing, people would be all excited about it. But Harley does it, so there is tons of hate.

Back in the AMF harley era, there were many sub 1k cc engined bikes running around with harley branding. Off road, city, etc......they weren't about the "style" or badassedry. I believe even the normal harley guys made fun of them constantly as well.
