McLaren is now offering a couple e-bikes.  I wonder if they also sell bike racks to mount on your 750S. https://cars.mclaren.press/en-us/releases/1185

Those are a good bit less expensive than I thought they would be. Only about 2.5 times what my Biketrix Juggernaut Duo cost.

Interesting.

That does look rad.

That is a cool looking bike but for the price I expected a little higher end suspension components like the RockShox Flight Attendant.

I see that picture and it reminds me of all the videos online of people trying to drive into a low clearance garage with a bicycle strapped to the roof.  You REALLY wouldn't want to do it with your McLaren.

Yeah, no one is putting a bike on their McLaren for anything other than Instragram likes.

12k.  Ooph.  I mean, I guess that is inline with other high end ebikes.  However, that is well in actual dirt bike territory.

In fairness, that  car would make a Huffy look rad.

It's pretty cool that they did that.

I fell like an old curmudgeon though, I get e-bikes but I don't understand e-mountain bikes.

You're supposed to work for it. Those downhills aren't free.

Hell, there's a trail back home called "Cardiac".

I also think they'd be a lot faster if you ditched the battery and motor and got that thing down to about 20 lbs.

Yeah it is insane how much you can pay for a bike these days. FortNine had a really cool video on why bikes and motorcycles cost similar money that is worth a watch. Actually their whole channel is worth a watch, they produce some solid content.

In reply to ShawnG :

I was of the same mindset, I have a small e-bike to take to the track with me to get around the paddock but on the trail I didn't understand it. That was until I rode one at a demo day, they are a blast to haul down the trail on and if you get the chance you should try one out. That being said the next week when I bought a new mountain bike I went with a regular bike with no batteries.

In reply to ShawnG : I don't have an e-bike, but the first time that you're huffing and puffing up a steep grade, and a couple of guys pass you while chatting as if they're on level ground.... It's an eye-opener at the least.

If you don't understand mountain bikes with motors, you don't understand dirt bikes :) The difference is just a matter of degree, the concept is the same.

None of my mountain bikes have motors in them, though.

As for bikes on McLarens, I have a friend who might actually do that because he's deep into cycling and he has a Macca. I'll check with him.

All good points but I don't think an e-bike will do much for my success Belly. Lol

Yup - these, are just basically electric dirt bikes / mopeds.

I think McLaren is viing for the title of world's most BS-packed trade-legal press release.

The flagship McLaren 600 versions vie for the title of the world’s most powerful street-legal electric mountain bike with its Race mode delivering up to 852W of peak power and a top speed of 20mph/32kph.

US e-bike power limits are either 750W, 1000W, or not specifically limited (depending on federal vs. various different states), and the US is especially dumb about the exact definitions for power limits.  EU has a continuous power limit of 250W but no specific limit on peak power (EU gets partial credit for almost starting to understand that power ratings are not simple "common sense").  Therefore 852W of peak power is either not "street legal" or it is far from the world's most powerful.

All "street-legal" e-bikes are limited to a 20mph top speed.  Unless it is a 28mph top speed, or the top speed is not limited at all (but the assist may have to cut out).

Considering that some trails prohibit all e-bikes, it's a little hard to say WTF exactly they could possibly mean by "trail-legal".

I had zero interest in an e-bike until fellow rider insisted that I try his. Suddenly, I could climb hills that I haven't been able to climb since I was in my 20s...  and some that I couldn't climb at all back then.

I don't see myself spending that much money and rolling the dice on the lifespan of the batteries and electronics, but I totally get it now.
