Hey all,
I've been riding my little puch around on what I assume are very likely the tires it left the factory on back in '78. The rear is about to come apart so I need to find a replacement or two.
The size is 2 1/4 x 17" (2.25 x 17). I looked around briefly on the internet and I guess I shouldn't be surprised that such an unloved concept (moped) doesn't have much in the way of tire selection.
I don't need performance really...just something to ride on. But I figured I'd check here to see if anyone had any experience with moped tires before I ordered some.
So...anyone have any tips?
Thanks,
Clem

America's toughest moped gang.
A few years ago we had two Puchs. I got tires for them at J.C. Whitney.

Can't help on the tires, but here's a rap song devoted to mopeds, courtesy of Hollywood Holt.

JCW has them but I couldn't find a specific size. Dennis Kirk has them for $10 - $20. Cheap insurance against a face plant blow out.

You have inspired me to go out to my barn and start fooling around around with this little gem that I picked up last fall. All did was remove the rear rack and shine up the chrome before tucking it away for the Winter. Time for a tuneup.
Nice Tomos!
Yeah...JCW only listed 14" moped tires as far as I could tell so I checked out the DennisKirk link. Thanks for that one!
So...they've got ones that are listed as front tires, but under the details it says "can be used for front or rear." OK...I guess I'll get two cheap ones and see how they work...
Thanks again folks,
Clem

No dry rot? How bad can they be?

Check "1977 Mopeds" (http://www.1977mopeds.com/)
They are in Kalamazoo MI. Call them if you can't find it on their site, very helpful people.

Plenty of options in that size. As in, I've got three different brands of 2.25x17 Moped tires in the garage.
Motorcycle Superstore
Bike Bandit
Tires Unlimited
etc.
I have Michelin Gazelles, Cheng Shins, and some "sporty" Savas on various bikes. Oh, and many local new bike dealers/shops will have catalogs they can order from. I think my Cheng Shins were $12 each. Seriously.

As an update:
I ended up getting some tires from the Dennis Kirk link above. To my doorstep they were right at $50 for the pair. It feels good to have some tires on there that are new and softer than the asphalt they ride on.
