I had a regular customer come into the shop one day. He was as white as a sheet. When I asked him if he was OK his response was his new R1 was through the break in period. He had come across one of the longer bridges in town and just run up through the gears. Not super hard, just aggressively. When he looked at the speedometer he was running over 160mph. It scared the crap out of him. He sold the bike the following week and bought a Suzuki Samurai.

I think sportbikes would be a lot safer without speedometers. It's a lot less scary to enter a turn a couple MPH slower than the group you're following than to enter it at 78 MPH.
I don't know, I usually only dial it back to reality after I see the numbers.

I don't really look at my speedo when I'm committed to a fast turn...
If you guys dig sportbikes that have dirt potential...back in the late 90's they had a Supertracker series. It was dirt oval racing for just about any motor. Here's an article from 99. Motors raced then were Duc 916's, VTR1000's, TL's of all varieties.

I like bike-powered-cars. 1230lbs and 175hp sounds pretty good.
175hp and 500lbs sounds dangerous.
My k1200s is rated at 167hp stock and I added a pipe, race filters, quick open throttle, and power commander v. It's an extrememly easy bike to ride, but turns into a beast when you want it. I've been riding since I was 8 years old and rode 600cc sportbikes for probably 10 years. Now I have the k1200s, Triumph Speed Triple (1050cc), Honda CM450e, and some 2 stroke dirtbikes. Surprisingly insurance on the BMW is half the price of the Triumph even though the BMW is much faster.

Same reason Corvettes are cheaper insure than most cars in it's class/speed. Mostly owned by middle aged persons with low risk
