Figures i would get crazy ideas in my head after mentioning; heck even entertaining the notion of sidecars and so here is some stuff that came to my mind:
how easy is it to get a car tire on a bike with a sidecar (by that i mean on the drive wheel) Goldwings have been done but other mainstream bikes?
car tire or bike tire on the sidecar? seen much of both leaning towards bike wheel/tire--thinner less drag
water cooled vs air cooled bike for a sidecar setup? I would like water cooled i think for a heat source?
Sport bike vs standard bike? Older sport bikes are gettin cheap but standard bikes have steal frames and maybe better ergonomics?
lastly, dual sport or more street bike? The idea of urban adventue style thing seems apealing.
Not looking to use it for a passenger hauling and figure for temp people moving i can do two up.
I wanna build it. No bought rigs. I know its work getting it setup and dialed in. I know. This is GRM gosh darnit.
I want it to be able to go 4 seasons. I live in cleveland and while we get snow its not too terrible that often. I figure some meaty dual sport tires should help me out right? I was told i cant be done and dont buy it.
Lastly, i am debating engine size in my head. A small bike, say under 500cc (ninja 250-500, kz 550, yamaha 400?) could be fun cause its more momentum bike style which, driving slow cars, i tend to enjoy, but with a hack it might be too small. On the other hand a Goldwing or 750cc something would be bigger more stable i guess and all that.
Help me with what you can please. input, experience, etc. Avidrider.com has been great so far too btw.
I've drawn up a leaning (or articulated) sidecar for my SV650. It can be done pretty simply, and lightweight. Along the lines of a Kalich. Maybe get it built this year.
advrider.com forums have a sidecar subforum, with a bunch of builds and info.
A guy came into a dealership I used to work at with a Ural T w/ sidecar, its a very unique bike. The side car version was actually designed specifically for a side car. Engine placement, etc is different from normal version. Not something I'd ever own, but very cool to see in person!
