Nice. Should be fun trying fixed, never tried it either. Cheap 80's 90's roadbikes are the best. I too have a 93-ish 2.8 in my stash...
Would dual brakes defeat the purpose of this? I think I'd run dual brakes anyway..

As a SS, it will absolutely have brakes--both f/r. Many FG riders ride w/out brakes...that's not my vibe!
Ah I thought the common FG wisdom was front friction brakes, rear leg brakes. But yea even FG I'd want rear brakes also.
In reply to 8valve :
That's how the smart ones do it (IMHO)--but I've seen plenty of "brakeless" FG builds.
Decals and clear. I was unable to source any authentic "Takara" decals, so I had some made. I also struggled with the font--nothing was quite right. So I figured that if we were going to do a font change--we were really going to do a font change. The font I chose is actually a "Porsche" font that was a free download online. I figured it was appropriate given the livery.

Don't your wrists or hands get numb?
I have not ridden it yet--but I have *really* long arms too--7' wingspan.

They are Retrospec brand. $99 on Amazon, including Kenda 25C tires. They have a sealed hubs, where most at that price did not. And most did not come with tires either. They had a number of decent reviews on Amazon, as well as several other online sources. Anyone else that sold Retrospec wheelsets was at $150-160+...so I felt like I got a deal. They are heavy, but they spin nicely and were pretty true right out of the box. Mostly, they gave me the look I was going for.
Here is the breakdown of costs:
Frame/fork: $50
Handlebars: Nitto $36
Stem: OE SR
Brakes: Tektro 559 $45
Levers: LBS parts bin--Weinmann $25
Wheelset: Retrospec w/ included Kenda 25C $99
Crankset: IRO 70mm 46T $38
Pedals: LBS parts bin Pista-style with Christophe cages $10
Seatpost: Cyclist Choice SP243 $10
Saddle: OE
I'm getting close on my 2nd build. A 66cm 4130 framed Ross...looks like a '77 as well. It was a $75 shipped eBay find and was a very ugly and a little rusty in spots.
This one will fit better than the Takara and is lighter.
As before, the paint is Rustoleum.
So this is my 2nd effort--getting close to being done. Its a Cr-Mo 66cm Ross frame. Its coming in a shade over 20 pounds, which for its size seems pretty good. Needs a freewheel, chain, brake cables (will be white), and bar tape...
