I've been noticing these bikes for sale for what appears to me like a really cheap price, and they seem to get absolutely no love.
Case in point: this example for sale locally. 2009 Buell 1125R with 23000km (about 14K), apparently needs nothing for only 4500$.
Or this other local example. 2008, 10000km for 5500$.
Is it just because it has a Rotax engine which should produce more power than it does?
What's the deal?
The shaking at stop signs is what keeps me from buying one.
The other issue is no (dealer) support for them anymore as HD divorced EB.
That is the Rotax one that is incredibly fast.
Just not popular I guess.
The pricing is probably due to the fact that HD dealers sold the last of them at fire sale prices when they divorced Buell. Most of those bikes went for half price or less.
I really like these and think that a 1125CR might be on my list of future bikes.
They actually shake a lot less than most V-twins I've ridden.
I've ridden the R and the CR a bunch of times, and the CR is simply a nonredeemable death machine. With the upright ergonomics and a billion lb-ft. of torque just off idle, it will wheelie whenever you want and most times you don't...It's also not as agile as you might think, not tossable like its streetfighter style and lighter weight suggests. The R is just as fast and feels more planted.
Obviously this is all just my preference. Your mileage, as they say...
But yeah, for performance/dollar, they are by far as good as it gets right now.
Its cool, the Rs seem more common and I have a company that makes head light assemblies for motorcycles so street fightering an R would be simple enough.
Basically an American Aprilia.
that is a good thing
I just can't get over the cooling duct ear muffs.
They're not ear muffs, they're mandibles...
The ducts look awesome to me but the upper fairing is really weird, hence CR.

I can't say I'd spend that much for one........
Nice RC51s are getting under $5k these days.
Excellent fit and finish, reliable, parts availability, etc etc.
Craigslist DC, Motorcycles by owner, min $4k, max $5k
I sold my KTM 950 SM mega-moto as my KTM 690 SMC is much more fun on the street as I can use much more of the bike all the time...

If you go I-4 instead of vtwin, first gen 10's like mine are all over from the $3k mine was up to $7k+........they might just be the performance bargain of the decade.....as they'll still keep up with the current generation zx10.
I don't think that I want something that is that crazy. I like the lower rev range that I can actually use on the street. Honestly though, I haven't ridden enough to actually know.

To be honest, excess isn't as bad as people would like you to believe.

I remember the deals when HD was closing them out. Those used prices don't really impress me for orphaned bikes that were an aquired taste when new.
I used to live close enough to Daytona that I would go out to Bikeweek and Biketoberfest and do all the test rides. The last one I went to Buell had the 1125 bikes but the test ride slots were booked all day and so I rode one of the normal HD engined ones. All I remember was the gearbox was impossible to get into neutral and the bike about roasted my inner thigh through jeans on a 70 degree day. The folks who rode the 1125 said they were a huge improvement.

Test rode a CR today, and I have to disagree with some of this. I found it surprisingly docile- not that it won't tear your face off when you give it plenty of throttle, but it's nice and linear so it's easy to modulate. I wouldn't call it tossable, but very direct at least. Overall, with the higher "comfort" bars, I give it a 10/10. Except for the seat, that thing is garbage, but Corbin can fix that nicely.
Conclusion of the ride: I have MUCH love for the 1125CR, somebody just needs to buy my BMW so I can pick one up...
I will probably look for the cheapest version I can find. I would be tearing it apart anyways. The R would probably get higher bars soon after purchase.

RC-51 doesn't look or sound like the Buell (even the Rotax one we are talking about here) but the performance is scary.
It is like saying Mufasa. I just shiver.

That's about what should be the common sound among any liter bike.....they're docile when you aren't in the mood for speed. In all honesty, putting around on them is easier that doing the same on a 600 class

Buwahahahaha
I have noticed that RC51s are getting cheap. I might consider one of those when the time comes (and the wife permits) a real street bike.
